Scott Macaluso of Art for Market Inc.Portland's NW 23rd Avenue known variously as Nob Hill, the Alphabet District, or simply Northwest. It's also the perfect base for shopping, dining, and exploring Portland's best attractions. The city's sparkling downtown, artsy Pearl District, and famously vast Powell's City of Books, as well as the Oregon Zoo, Japanese Garden, and International Rose Test Garden, are minutes away on foot or public transit.Restaurants such as Wildwood and Paley's Place head up what is surely the state's highest concentration of superb regional cuisine.Or perhaps you're more interested in African art, Italian ceramics, or elaborate kites shaped like mermaids and VW bugs. There's a specialty store for everyone, including Moreland House with its large selection of collectibles on a single theme: wiener dogs.Mingo, where your wine and coffee come in one dish, the penne al sugo di carne (with beef braised in chianti and espresso). And there's still room upstairs for the meditation chapel complete with a small fountain and fresh flowers.Mount Hood, and Mount St.Helens, and you might just decide to skip the neighborhood's nicknames and simply call it wonderful.New Renaissance Bookshop 1338 NW 23rd Ave.Paint the Sky Kites 828 NW 23rd Ave.Shoe Bar 633 NW 23rd Ave.Washington Park Includes the Oregon Zoo, Rose Garden, Japanese Garden, tennis courts, playgrounds, and trails.Elegant truffles and sumptuous bars.Tao of Tea International teas and tea cuisine.Papa Haydn 701 NW 23rd Ave.Wildwood 1221 NW 21st Ave.Eggs with Brie, scallions, and tomato.West Pancakes by the acre. This article was first published in November 2004.Please call ahead to verify information.DYNAMIC CAMPAIGN ID IN QUERY

West 23rd Street carves through the heart of Chelsea. In the late 19th century West 23rd Street was the center of American theater, with the Opera House Palace and Pike's Opera House one block away and Proctor's Theater ("continuous daily vaudeville") across the street from the Hotel Chelsea.Street remained New York's main theater strip until The Empire opened on Broadway some twenty blocks uptown, ushering in a new era of theater.East 23rd Street
East 23rd Street, which runs between Fifth Avenue and the East River (FDR Drive), is one of the main streets running through Manhattan's neighborhood of Gramercy Park.Opposite Madison Square Park on East 23rd Street are two skyscrapers originally built by MetLife.Madison Avenue, with its ornate clocktower face, was one of Manhattan's first skyscrapers.Peter Cooper Village was a sister project to MetLife's Stuyvesant Town, which was built across 20th Street to the south. The Flatiron Building is on the south side of the street at Broadway.Additionally, MTA New York City Transit's M23 bus runs the length of 23rd Street.Street and watch the wind blowing women's dresses up so that they could catch a little bit of ankle. This entered into popular culture and there are hundreds of postcards and illustrations of women with their dresses blowing up in front of the Flatiron Building.See also: Commissioners' Plan of 1811, List of eponymous streets in New York City. This page was last modified 02:39, 8 January 2008.All text is available under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License.
