Warner Bros.It matters not be considered.DVD also numerous centres of the entertainment at home, the road from the CD collection.Choosing a summer camp program for your child involves some important research. Many parents can benefit from guidance in this area. With the wide variety of sleepaway camps for kids available, there are numerous factors to consider when making this choice.DO YOU AND YOUR CHILD WANT?The parent must make an effort to understand what the child wants and why.Learn new skills, develop more self confidence, improving proficiency in certain areas, become more independent? What are the special interests that your child wants to explore? Are there any physical, intellectual, or social limitations that should be considered? What kind of emphasis will your child profit from the most?Generally, overnight camps are coed, all boys, all girls, or brother and sister.Depending on the type of program chosen, a camp experience can range anywhere from one week to an entire summer. What is expected from the camp experience? What type of camp fits best with parent work schedules and family vacation times? What are the total costs of sleepaway camp?Is it General, Specialty, Academic, Travel, or Special Needs? After you have gone through your preferences and reasons, make a note of any additional questions or concerns that you still have.As a parent you have to make a careful assessment of your family's financial limitations regarding camp costs.Second, be sure to estimate the extras that are involved in going to camp.If your child does not have a good experience, you both will have lost far more than you have saved. The cost ranges shown include both general and specialty camps.Camps may vary in size from under 100 campers to more than 400.In a good camp there may be little correlation between size and the quality of the total camp experience. What do you do to prevent campers from getting lost in the shuffle? What is done to promote a sense of self worth? Many parents needlessly limit their search for a camp by looking in one state or by choosing an arbitrary distance from home.As you might imagine, camps have all kinds of program offerings. Some camps may emphasize one activity while others will offer a wide array of programs.Camps in which a camper would devote a majority of his or her time to one activity are often referred to as Specialty Camps. Will the program encourage the child to try new things or things he or she is not skilled in?Is instruction given in each activity? How structured is the program?Once you have reached the point where you have begun to compare camp programs, you may want to return to some of these questions. For now, it is appropriate to try to pin down some of the program preferences you and your child have.Baseball, Basketball, Field Hockey, Football, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, Volleyball, Roller Hockey, Ice Hockey. At this stage of the decision process, your central task is to identify those camps which appear promising in terms of meeting your specifications. You can add to your list in other ways.Once you have developed a list of possibilities the most difficult task remains. That is, how do you compare camps so that you can narrow the possibilities to the one which makes the most sense for you and your child? The best way to proceed with your comparison and to narrow your choices is to take a careful look at some of the promising camps you have identified.Review the brochures and videos with your child. Then you can choose the ones you're most interested in and arrange to speak or meet with the camp directors or representatives. They'll give you more detail and you can ask specific questions like: What is the director's age and background? How long has the director run this camp? What kind of camper is most likely to have a good experience at this camp? What facilities does the camp have and how convenient are they for campers to get to?What is the schedule like?Is it a structured program or one that emphasizes a lot of free choice? What is the total cost of the camp including extras? What are the sleeping arrangements and what toilet and shower facilities exist? How does the camp insure the safety and security of its campers? What is the food like and who prepares it?What is the policy about food packages, letters home, TV, trips to town, and to forth? What medical facilities are available and what medical staff is on campus? Is there a refund policy if the camper leaves early? Will the director supply references? How does the camp program meet individual needs and differences? As you go over these questions you might want to add a few additional ones from the previous sections guide.Speaking with these families can give you valuable insight about the camp and the families that send their children there. To contact the National Camp Association, Inc.This video will appear on your blog shortly.Thank you for sharing your concerns.Content of
