Abyssinia Infinite biography, Abyssinia Infinite discography

Search for music Need Help?"Bati Bati, a traditional Ethiopian song once recorded by Aster Aweke, provides a gentle enough welcome. This hardly hints at the fireworks to follow.Much credit goes to producer Bill Laswell.Much of this derives (as set out in the fascinating sleeve notes) from the fundamental civilising influences of Ethiopia throughout history.Interesting to see that Gigi treats her music and material from the standpoint of an Ethiopian Orthodox Christian: a few missionaries like her and our C of E churches might burst. Now Gigi has joined forces with producer Bill Laswell (renowned for his work with Peter Gabriel, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Manu Dibango) to realise a longstanding dream, exclusively for Network: "Abyssinia Infinite".The supreme sensuality of her soprano voice has an emotional depth that cannot fail to touch anyone who hears it.This is Ethiopian soul at its very finest.Abyssinia Infinite Zion Roots Network 2003 (www.Laswell project, under the name of Abyssinia Infinite, simplifies instrumentation while retaining a, well, infinite production depth, amplifying the otherworldliness of Gigi's voice while not obscuring its immediacy."Bati Bati" suspend resolution in a bated breath beneath Gigi's quavering vocal, pensive yet earthily grounded, a musical whisper that compels attention and eases one into an appropriately contemplative mood for the rest of the album."Gela" begins with plunking kirar harp, then accelerates into a quick shuffle pulsing with accordion, Gigi's vocal adroit not only with melody but timing, punctuated by handclaps, chorus, and ululations. The dreamy acoustic guitar and tablas of "Alesema" provide a merrily bouncy background for a repetitive staccato vocal melody interspersed with high, angelic humming.Celtic excursions as William Murphy's liner notes suggest. But this is a minor quibble with a fine recording.Ethiopia's most intriguing young singer, Ejigayehu "Gigi" Sibabaw has never sounded this good on record."Alesema," a melodious folk song, finds Gigi's vocal floating on a bubbling bed of plucked strings and light percussion. The most rhythmically driving tracks split the difference between ritual pulse and chant and ambient club groove, but it's Gigi's confidence as a singer that makes this production excel.Do not duplicate or redistribute in any form without permission.Whoever thought that jazz and traditional Ethiopian music must exist in separate realms is proven wrong by Abyssinia Infinite. If I am not mistaken, this is the third joint project of Elijgayehu "Gigi" Shibabaw and Bill Laswell, and indeed this is a return to the roots of Ethiopian soul music.Illuminated Audio, where Gigi's voice was almost mixed into oblivion.Abyssinian history goes back to biblical times and that delightful story of King Solomon's little affair with the Queen of Sheba. This provides an excellent medium for Gigi's return to a more classical sound, accompanied mainly by acoustic instruments.Although the lyrics are mostly in ancient tongues like Amharic and Agewna, Gigi's vocal interpretations are contemporary and progressive.Yet never has the listener the impression that comes this at the expense of authenticity or that original intentions have been compromised.Producer Laswell himself has picked up the acoustic guitar for the occasion, while the versatile Tony Cedras provided additional musical support on accordion.Abyssinia Infinite consists of 10 compositions. The jazziest piece is "Lebaye," which towards the end is dominated by Moges Habte's saxophone.Horn of Africa's majestic landscape of valleys and mountains.Translated into music it makes for an appropriate audio testimonial of Gigi's native land. That's Wolof for "one hand can't clap" and this is Matt Yanchyshyn's African music for the masses. All music on this site is available for a limited time only.As the lights go up, what do we hear?Shibabaw, put out a project a few years back called Abyssinia Infinite. The track I picked for today pretty much sums up that collision of culture and sound at the end of the Gotan show.At 9:45 the curtains draw back to reveal a stage filled with Abyssinia .List The Best Music Humane Oakville Society MP3 Download Collection!Gigi Shibabaw: Zion Roots CD.Do the Abyssinians hava a full.Find Abyssinians, Abyssinians Music, Records, CDs items at low prices.Opera and Musical Theater Initiative (NOMTI),.Abyssinia Infinite Music CDs profile on eBay..Ethiopian music, but in fact this is a.
