Agoraphobic Nosebleed (abbreviated as ANb) is a grindcore band formed in 1994 in Massachusetts, United States.Jay Randall, and Katherine Katz, as well as Bassist Richard Johnson.Biography
Through the use of drum machines, the band has been able to play songs with over a thousand BPM.The lyrics usually revolve around subjects such as drugs and violence.The band is known for the conciseness of its songs: Their album Altered States of America features 100 songs (including one hidden) in just over 20 minutes, many songs clocking in at 5 seconds or less, and the longest song clocking in at about a minute.Agoraphobic Nosebleed played their first live set at the 2003 New England Metal and Hardcore Festival.The second disc is over an hour's worth of remixes off PCP Torpedo by breakcore and noise music artists such as Xanopticon, James Plotkin, Merzbow, and Justin Broadrick; however, many of the remixes are unrecognizable.All text is available under the terms of the GNU with SLAYER."Out of sheer frustration over the lack of drummers in the local Massachusetts area, Scott Hull and friends formed AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED (ANb) with the help of a drum machine in 1994.Scott Hull not only attempted, but achieved!An AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED recording is like passing through a hailstorm of runaway steamhammers with only a puny cocktail umbrella for protection.In 1998, after releasing a number of split EP's and seven inch LPs with respected scene veterans, AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED unleashed their Relapse Records debut, Honkey Reduction.Featuring 26 tracks of unbelievably manic grindcore, Honkey Reduction sizzled flesh and tenderized minds.The response to the album was immense as fans and critics marveled at the unrelenting extremity that da' NOSEBLEED kicked down.AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED had taken the power to the people!Then, with Relapse proposing the idea of a split release, The Poacher Diaries surfaced, seeing ANb align themselves with Boston's CONVERGE, delivering a split CD of massive proportions.Hull's dexterous guitar warfare fused with decimating drum programming and voracious vocal vortexes.As writing commenced for the next AGORAPHOBIC recording, the ANb sound took a massive step forwards and additional members were deemed necessary.Randall who surmised, "Frozen Corpse Stuffed with Dope is like ripping through back catalog Earache blastbeat shit armed with a submachine gun at 400 rounds per minute."Intricate, obtuse artwork by Aaron Turner (ISIS) further added to the surrealistic AGORAPHOBIC vision.New England Metal and Hardcore Festival caught everyone off guard and set forth rumors of future ANb "guerrilla" live appearances.While the fires left burning in Frozen Corpse's wake were still smoldering, the band issued a split 7" release with fellow Relapse labelmates HALO, providing music fans with the ultimate battle of the extremes.Immediately following, AGORAPHOBIC set to work on a concept so bizarre, no one would believe it.Released on April Fools Day, 2003, Altered States of America delivered the most ambitious ANb yet and delivered completely inhuman music with a consummate disregard for it's listener.AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED's Bestial Machinery (ANb Discography Vol.CD set features all of ANb's recorded material prior to their Relapse Records debut, Honkey Reduction.Eviscerated remains, long of out of print material and previously unreleased tracks work as raw materials for this colossal project of human subjugation where the listener is but a set of ears to lacerate and another body to will ever know the feeling of being ripped apart by a pack of hyenas on crack, here's the next best thing...Was it a goal in mind from the beginning, or something that eventually evolved into what it is now?Originally, it was going to be a 40 song 7" on Deathstill records (UK), but Relapse has been cracking down a little on bands doing shit for other labels, but Matt offered to do something along those lines on Relapse.Finally, after hacking though everything, you get to this little ridiculous rabbit turd of a CD.Who the fuck would do such a thing?Was it every man for himself or...?"Do you want to take this one?"RANDALL: Well, I recorded all my own vocals on the noise tracks at home in Springfield, so I'm pretty sure those are all mine.For the rest, we all piled in and out of the vox closet at Visceral...Like on the last record, JR Hayes did a couple and Pete Benumb pinched out some more phonecore vocals because Pete will just call you up and take a fat shit in your ear.HULL: That's more a question for Jay, Carl, and Rich, but I know Jay had a lot of these lyrics for Frozen Corpse.In fact, ASOA is really the record Frozen should have been.SCHULTZ: It wasn't all that bad really.Having said that, for some of the conjoined segments on Altered States..."Aum Shinrikyo," "Twelve Days of Sodom" and "Altered States of America" tracks, we made sure that the overall theme adhered to some kind of general, twisted topic.RANDALL: I came up with it on the train ride into Philly to meet Carl.It seems we all like movies about drugs that encourage drug use amongst people of intellect.RANDALL: Well, less with the title than the lyrics.Scott and Jeff Gaither had worked out the artwork for this record before it was actually titled.ANb Pharmaceuticals, Inc exists to deliver the best in mental and visual grind stimulation.JOHNSON: Honestly I'm still trying to absorb the record, which is incredible because I've heard it so many times, going back to when we were doing the vocals.Recording on a song sort of puts you inside it, so I can't imagine how it must be for a listener who is hearing the record for the first time, standing outside of the record."Oh, I like track 42 the best!"JOHNSON: Like many bands I think, yes.The Japanese version of Altered States...Premature Hallucination, which contains all lyrics I hallucinated into a notebook while taking mushrooms at home the day before I flew down to do vocals for the Converge split.We got a few lines out of it that people will probably recognize listening to the Altered States of Japan Premature Hallucination disc.What does the future hold for ANb?RANDALL: A fuckin' release schedule into 2005.HULL: What DOESN'T the future hold for ANb?After three years, we shat out FCSWD and ASOA ass to ass.CD ANb discography of all the old vinyl crap...What is the possibility of seeing ANb live?There have been rumors of possibly Dave Witte handling (or at least attempting to) drum duties...HULL: Dave and I have talked about it for literally years.Everything in this band is entirely subject to change.But I hear that Dave's getting a large caliber Gatling Gun installed on his Pork Pie percussion set for ANb.Jay's having his mouth replaced with an asshole.I'm more into the classic or older stuff, which is what I admire.These days there are plenty of bands that have metal influences or are hybrids of metal and something else that have interesting music to offer, though.Those two are the worst.What bands are you all currently listening to?Suffocation EP, the last Smashing Pumpkins CD, Venom by
