Legendary singer Brent Dowe of Mellodians fame died suddenly of a heart attack last Sunday, January 28.It is hard, but we are trying to cope.We have four kids together, the youngest is four years old," his wife of 6 years, Sonia Dowe told YARDFLEX yesterday.The local music fraternity was shocked, and disheartened as news of Dowe's death spread.He had a phenomenal career with big hits such as 'Rivers of Babylon' with Mellodians who were a great group because Porky can lead, and Tony and J could also lead.Dawn Henry of DNA Productions, which does bookings for a number of vintage artistes, was also saddened by the news."He was an excellent performer, and writer, and a good showman.He really left a tremendous legacy behind and I spent all of Sunday listening to Bob Clarke play Mellodians songs last Sunday, and I was blown away by the great songs they had," she said.Greetings and Blessings, one and all.This is Daddy Lion Chandell of DLC IndustryWatch and the Roots Dynamic Soundsystem in New York.Brent Dowe passing away, as I was with Justin Hinds, Clancy Eccles, and Laurel Aitken leaving us last year, not to mention Junior Delgado and Jennifer Lara.The fact that I first knew of his name as an early solo artist growing up on one of his rare tunes deepened the heartache within me to listen to it.That in mind, I have produced a special tribute show to Brent Dowe on my new show "Roots Dynamic Radio".Sunday, January 29, Brent Dowe was dead from a heart attack at the University Hospital of the West Indies.His voice is imprinted on Jamaican popular culture, with songs such as Little Nut Tree, Sweet Sensation, You Have Caught Me, Swing and Dine and Rivers of Babylon.There could have been signs of that time.Tara, one of four children, the oldest being 23 and the youngest four, with Dowe's widow, Sonia.The couple, together for three decades, celebrated their anniversary on January 22.Dowe had five other children.Last Friday, when he was supposed to do the school rounds, Dowe felt the pain again and McNaughton suggested some stretching.Dowe did so, said he was ready and off they went.It looked like he was sleeping.It is one of the most popular Jamaican songs ever."JAVAA MEMBERS DISTRAUGHT
