4.The bosses send his boyhood friend, Nicholas "Nicky" Santoro (Joe Pesci) who is famous for his reckless and violent temper, to Vegas to "protect" Sam and the casino.Nicky shows his sadistic and brutal nature in one of the Outfit's bars, after a man insults Ace, when Ace asked him a question about his pen lying on the bar, Nicky mercilessly stabs and beats the man, even mocking his whimpers afterwards.Sam laments that his entire life he's always bet on the sure thing, but marrying Ginger was a "real long shot", however he convinces himself he can change her.Nicky's recklesnessness combined with he and his crew cheating at poker in various Las Vegas casinos get him kicked out of every casino in the city.Frank Marino (Frank Vincent), although he is in reality stealing the jewelery and selling it to various dealers.Tony Doggs, along with two other men shoot up one Gaggi's diners, killing two of his men and a young waitress who was working on her night off.An enraged Gaggi demands Marino get the information out of Doggs by any means necessary regarding the other hoods present.Nicky and his men beat Doggs for two days, Nicky's narraration stating they even stuck icepicks in his testicles.Nicky tightens the vise after Doggs curses him until one of his eyeballs pops out of his head.Nicky to kill him afterwards.Nicky leaves Marino to slit the man's throat.The application is rejected by a crooked Nevada Senator (Dick Smothers) (who Sam had been wining and dining at the hotel) as a favor to county commissioner Patrick Webb (L.Ginger's drug and alcohol addictions worsen after Sam learns she is financially aiding her former lover Lester Diamond (James Woods).Following a violent argument, Ginger leaves Sam and begins an affair with Nicky.The bosses notice that the suitcases of money delivered from the Tangiers are getting lighter, since the men counting the money have begun stealing more than usual for themselves.Worse, Piscano frustrated about not being reimbursed starts keeping precise records of the expenses, despite Borelli warning him not to.Sam and Ginger's relationship hits a climax after Ginger ties Amy to her bed while she went out to Nicky's restaurant.Furious, Sam threatens to kill her prompting Ginger to turn to Nicky for assistance.However, Nicky, aghast at Ginger's mental state (and probably still showing loyalty to his friend, despite the severing of their relationship), refuses to help her and throws her from his restaurant.While Nicky laments to Marino that he "fucked up good this time", as a cardinal sin to the bosses is for one associate to sleep with another associate's wife, Ginger drives to Sam's house in a fit of rage the following morning to collect her share of Sam's possessions.Ginger's arrest and Piscano's big mouth start the crumbling of the casino empire.FBI agents storm Nicky's shop and the casino, getting as much information as they can.Piscano's expense reports essentially provide them with a blueprint of how the scam worked, along with dates, names and addresses.The bosses are arrested and taken to court, where they hold a meeting during a recess in a back room to decide which witnesses should be eliminated to stop them from ratting on them, having Gaggi's hitmen murder Andy Stone, John Nance, two casino executives, and a count room clerk.Ginger sinks deeper into drug addiction, and eventually ends up with a group of lowlife bikers in California who use her for her money to purchase drugs.Nicky and his brother hold a meeting in an Indiana cornfield with Marino, Nicky's crew, and two of Gaggi's wiseguys, Fat Sally and Beeper, the hitman who was present in the murder of the witnesses, but their own crew turns on them, with Marino throwing the first hit, which incapacitates Nicky.Nicky is next, and after a severe beating, Marino and his men bury them alive.All of these factors combined lead the bosses to order that Marino execute him.Vegas casinos, are demolished and replaced with new "super resort" casinos.Sam stares into the distance, presumably lamenting on the events of the last 10 years and the film ends.Snippets of Hoagy Carmichael's composition Stardust in the soundtrack give a subtle hint as to the casino's true identity.Sam Rothstein for the film.This could be a nod to one of Joe Pesci's previous films, My Cousin Vinny, which features a character named "Stan Rothenstein" (played by Mitchell Whitfield).Differences between fact and fiction
