Partner: Tennis.Your California Privacy Rights are applicable to you.Carl Bajema has been studying the environmental history of Michigan for the past 10 years.He searches the microfilm of old newspapers published before 1931 to obtain news accounts relating to environmental history of Michigan in general and particularly the Grand River valley.Professor Bajema is gathering information on the following problems for a series of papers and books on environmental history: (1) deforestation and reforestation practices; (2) exploitation of terrestrial and aquatic animal populations; (3) transportation (by boat, rail and road); (4) recreation; (5) pollution (air and soil as well as water); (6) floods and flood control.Professor Bajema also engages in field work studying the surface archaeological remains of nineteenth century lumbering operations and teams up with individuals such as James Ponshair to gain a better understanding of the natural and cultural history of the Grand River valley.GPS mapping system) are working with Professor Bajema on this project (projected completion date: Fall 2001).Recent publications:
