June 14, 1942, is the date the vibrant, soulful, pleading voice of Garland Green was first showcased as a newborn.Though born in Dunlieth, MS, he attended school in nearby Leyland, where he sang in the school's gospel group."Jealous Kind of Fella" was written by Rudolph Browner, Garland Green, Maurice Dollison, and Joshie Armstead.His next release didn't fare as well and Green left MCA and Joshie Armstead and headed for Atlantic Records' Cotillion label.Five singles were released on Green in two and a half years.Cotillion never issued an album on Green.He then recorded for Spring Records; again five records were released in a short time span, 18 months.Though only minor successes, the recordings were good.After Spring, a blues record was cut on a small label before he signed with RCA, who put out three singles and an album.Leon Haywood produced the sides in Los Angeles, CA.Sadly, RCA didn't promote the album well and nothing significant resulted from the association.After RCA he didn't record again for nearly seven years before he signed with Ocean Front Records and was produced by Lamont Dozier.Schesel and Green made a love connection and got married.He never did achieve the success of "Jealous Kind of Fella" again, but you can't say he didn't try.Post a question or answer questions about "Garland Green" at WikiAnswers.How did popcorn garland come about?For the film character Garland Greene, see Con Air.Garland Green (born Garfield Green Jr.June 14, 1942, Dunleith, Mississippi) is an American soul singer and pianist.Collins agreed to bankroll Green's attendance at the Chicago Conservatory of Music, where Green studied voice and piano, and played in local bars and clubs.In 1967, Green won a local talent show at a club called the Trocadero.His prize was a concert opening for Lou Rawls and Earl Hines at the Sutherland Lounge.It sold well locally and was picked up by MCA subsidiary, Revue Records for national distribution.Armstead, the record was released in the U.He then signed with Atlantic Records subsidiary, Cotillion Records, which released five singles from Garland, but only one proved a real success, "Plain and Simple Girl".Dozier 10 years earlier, "Trying To Hold On To My Woman".Charting singles
