hbx.How long does it take for burns to heal? You can get burned by heat and fire, radiation, sunlight, electricity or chemicals. The skin is very red or splotchy, and it may swell a lot.The burned skin looks white or charred. These burns may cause little or no pain because the nerves in the skin are damaged. The treatment depends on what kind of burn you have.Soak the burn in cool water. To protect the burned area, you can put a dry gauze bandage over the burn. Then put on an antibiotic cream, or other creams or ointments prescribed by your doctor.Change the dressing every day.Check the burn every day for signs of infection, such as increased pain, redness, swelling or pus.Burned skin itches as it heals.Don't take off any clothing that is stuck to the burn. What do I need to know about electrical and chemical burns? This injury may not show on the skin.Take off any clothing that has the chemical on it.This might start a chemical reaction that could make the burn worse.Au(zPsi,'',0,0,0)))

QuestionThank you so much, I will go to the ER as soon as I can.Last night I spilled boiling water on my hand, up to my wrist, and now (24 hrs later) i have huge blisters on mu fingers which continue to get larger.I'm on strong pain relief pills and my hand is covered with the silver cream and bandages from the ER.Is there anything else to do to speed up healing?Silvadene (a Rx cream) and proper dressing to separate the fingers (VERY important! The old rule about "Don't break the blisters" has been a pain! The reason was that the tissue under the blister has no protection from infection. However, the fluid in the blister is pretty much a "soup" of destroyed cells, toxins and stuff that both inhibits healing and provides an ideal environment for eventual infection.Dressing with sterile materials and a protective bandage is also required. This is redone 2 to 3 tomes a day initially and then reduced to twice or once per day as new skin begins to grow after 7 to 10 days.As new skin forms the Silvadene is discontinued and Bacitricin is used with cleaning and redressing daily until the burn is fully covered and healed.Physical therapy may be required to avoid a condition known as "HO" which is a calcification of the finger joints which can cause loss of function in some patients.Hope this clarifies the "what's and why's."The About logo is a trademark of About, Inc.They cause pain, redness, swelling, and blistering. Then treat the entire burn accordingly. If in doubt, treat it as a severe burn.By giving immediate first aid before professional medical help arrives, you can help lessen the severity of the burn.Thermal burns occur when hot metals, scalding liquids, steam, or flames come in contact with your skin. These are frequently the result of fires, automobile accidents, playing with matches, improperly stored gasoline, space heaters, and electrical malfunctions.Other causes include unsafe handling of firecrackers and kitchen accidents (such as a child climbing on top of a stove or grabbing a hot iron).Burns in children are sometimes traced to parental abuse.Calm and reassure the person. After flushing or soaking, cover the burn with a dry, sterile bandage or clean dressing.DO NOT give children under 12 aspirin.FOR MAJOR BURNS
If someone is on fire, tell the person to STOP, DROP, and ROLL.Make sure the person is breathing. If necessary, begin rescue breathing and CPR.Lay the person flat, elevate the feet about 12 inches, and cover him or her with a coat or blanket. However, DO NOT place the person in this shock position if a head, neck, back, or leg injury is suspected or if it makes the person uncomfortable.Continue to monitor the person's vital signs until medical help arrives.DO NOT breathe, blow, or cough on the burn.DO NOT disturb blistered or dead skin.DO NOT remove clothing that is stuck to the skin.DO NOT immerse a severe burn in cold water.DO NOT place a pillow under the person's head if there is an airway burn.Call 911 if:
The burn is extensive (the size of your palm or larger). The burn is severe (third degree). The burn is caused by chemicals or electricity. The person shows signs of shock.Call a doctor if your pain is still present after 48 hours.Call immediately if signs of infection develop.Place fire extinguishers in key locations at home, work, and school.Know about and practice fire escape routes at home, work, and school.Marx JA, Hockberger RS, Walls RM, eds.Roberts JR, Hedges JR, eds.MD, MS, Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine, Director of Research, Department of Emergency Medicine, Akron General Medical Center and Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. Also reviewed by David Zieve, MD, MHA, Medical Director, A.The information provided herein should not be used during any medical emergency or for the diagnosis or treatment of any medical condition.Call 911 for all medical emergencies.Instead, I bought his cookbook and I'm making the menu at home. Thanks for all the email, comments and kind wishes for my loser move Sunday night. Two Oven Mitts and Hot Pads She Already Owns Because Really How Stupid Can One Person Be, I Mean, Doy?Oh yeah, you read that right. And no, I did not take any Percocet before writing this, shut UP.Because in spite of all my dumbassery, this dish was good.It had three of the most decadent, luxurious, delicious, gorgeous, succulent ingredients known to man: lobster, foie gras and figs. The first thing I did was prepare the foie. You know you want some foie porn, dontcha? Then, I deveined the sucker.Again, no photos of this because it was late at night and I didn't want to drag anyone out of bed to come photograph what I find to be a totally awesome and satisfying process, but that most normal people are repelled by.Some other time, I promise. The recipe called for three lobsters, but I forgot that when I stopped by BlackSalt, so I only picked up two lobsters. One had bigger claws than the other, and he pounded the other one in the head repeatedly for no apparent reason, other than he was being a bit of a dick. Thus, let me introduce you to Ike and Tina:Tina succumbed to the hot water bath quickly, but Ike put up a fight until the bitter end. This is one case in which life did not imitate art.Anyhoo, wanna see the gorgeous lobster meat?Sunday afternoon with my family and some family friends celebrating my mom's, um....Little did they know they were going to play the role of triage nurse the moment they walked through the door. You know you do:Those are my lovely black mission figs sitting in the Saucepan of Death, soaking in the port wine as I brought the liquid to a boil. While the figs were poaching, I prepped the other fig sauce ingredients. Here's the chopped bittersweet chocolate and ground coffee beans:I took the lobster meat out of the fridge to bring it to room temperature and get it ready for the final poaching.Well, how Thomas Keller rolls.Wanna see the before and after? There was foie gras to be made.We don't need to know the way home.Insert your own Tina Turner reference here. The house smelled so amazing at this point.Last, but certainly not least? As always, the lobster and foie were delicious.UN note, we had a few small bits of leftover foie gras which we let the dogs try. And, no it's not named after a bad Japanese game show, although it sounds like it, doesn't it?Yeah, well, make a playlist of those songs and call it "Happy Happy Fun Time."Here are some of the selections from this playlist that were standouts today: The Heat is On (Don Henley); Stop (Spice Girls); Man in Motion (from St.I'm sure my neighbors looooove when this playlist is on, my windows are open, it's dark outside and the lights are on inside so they can get the full effect of my simultaneous lead and background vocals and exquisite choreography.Burny Burny Hand Time, no?She's back, baby, and better than EVUH.The dish looks wonderful (and I'm not a foie fan)and you kept on chugging after your little blistering problem.I'm sorry about your hands and I'm amazed that you can be in that much pain and soldier on,bravo!Good work in the face of disaster.Gotta question the the paint peel in the kitchen from the streak of swearing? My husband really believed it happened in our last kitchen when I burned my thumb.Come on, if you were a kitchen wouldn't you want your pro stove, and granite everywhere, including the window sills?Another question, did you apologize to Ike and Tina, when you put them in the pot?You are a trooper to keep going in the name of foie gras (TOTALLY justified). Thanks for the tip, and keep those ice packs on...You say you want to bring back "Doy"..Perocet aside, you never seem to recommend any drink pairing for you dishes.Just hold it like normal, and when it warms up, put it back in the fridge to drink later! Thanks for the foie gras photo. Many, many, kudos to you for saving the poaching liquid and finishing the dish.I've done that before too, but the thing I really need to comment on is the last bit, with the dogs?LOLthanks for making my day a little brighter.TK should put a warning in.My burns weren't as bad but the port splatter went all over the kitchen.Mission
Anyone can cook from any cookbook out there, but it takes a special kind of nutjob to attempt every recipe in The French Laundry Cookbook. My hat is off to Thomas Keller, Michael Ruhlman and Susie Heller for creating a book that has made the transition from coffee table to kitchen counter here in Takoma Park, Maryland. So, sit back, relax, pour yourself a glass of wine and enjoy the blog.Disclaimer
