P.I've not been keeping up with pictures of my Little Lutine.Dad picked it up in Mexico.Norah during our latest attempt to capture a Christmas card image.She's getting some molars so was throwing a fit about...But even her temper tantrum couldn't stop her from smiling when Daddy said "Cheese!"As many of you know, I've been spending some time in an alien suit of late.My brother and I own a loan store here in the St.Recently, we opted to take it to the next level to capture some of the excellent traffic flow we have in front of our store...As often as time allows, I zip over to the store and suit up to dance by the roadside, wave to kids and do a jig for folks on cell phones who pretend to be far too busy to notice me as they sit at the light."At any rate, here is the proof that those who knew about this have been asking for...Norah had done a few practice runs at home, showcasing her abilities to a) dump flower petals into one huge pile, b) stop walking and begin putting said petals back into the basket, then c) drop the basket and run away.Whatever she did would be fine.On the drive to the wedding, Moonshot asked young Norah if she remembered what she was supposed to do.Gawd, my retelling and laughed as he tried to look as sympathetic as he could to make the joke better.The best man looked confused.If this thing was as big a deal as Simon had lead me to believe, surly any Canadian would know about it.One of the groomsman got excited.He played hockey and thought were saying that we did as well.Moonshot and Norah for the reception and then continue with plan as before.It was a bit more driving, but it was what we had.As a mother who has truly enjoyed teaching our daughter sign, she was intrigued to see the wedding because both my cousin and her groom were deaf.The minister had to point to the alert us that Sarah was entering from the side.Moonshot could have seen it.Ten minutes there, ten minutes back and suddenly we were passing a giggling Norah about to distant relatives who were amazed at how she had grown.You see, weddings are typically a horrible place for a vegetarian to eat.Norah, but even if they had something, the timing was going to work such that folks would be finished eating by the time I returned.So, for want of a pair of pants for my daughter, I inhaled a sub sandwich, dropped off my family and headed back to the festivities for the third time.Chapter 1: Can't You Smell That Smell?Leaving the house with a strange scent hovering around all of our gas appliances made me more than a bit nervous.We had gone so far as to call our wonderful neighbor Tom over to have a sniff.Moonshot went looking for a phone (which are usually hidden by our daughter in increasingly bizarre locations), and I left for one last Home Depot run to pick up new cabinet hinges and such.Kilz came out with their Odor Free Oil Based Paint.And when it gets near flame, it still smells like a petrochemical burning and people freak out.It was a very comfortable relationship I had at the beginning.District Manager know that I was on my way.CEO on the phone while digging through a back office in Albuquerque.In less than 24 hours time I had gone from two days behind schedule to a full day ahead of schedule.Little Lutine a long overdue hug before putting her down for the night.Three points about time as a matter of fact.And with that, my dear friends, I am off to sleep in a hotel room just north of Oklahoma City that looks exactly like the one I slept in last night in Albuquerque.Three stores done by noon and then on the road to Alburquerque.Two things struck me today.Pictures of the expansive Southwest just never capture the sense of space, the depth out here.The flat images so often look rather boring.From time to time I thought about pulling over to line up a better shot, but in the end I like these.Nicely framed shots (while desirable in other contexts) just didn't appeal to me today.Down the other side of the mountain to flatness...Like massive, massive river stones This just amused me.My plan had been to knock out six stores today, the three in Tucson and the three in Phoenix.Flagstaff so I could get a jump on the road tomorrow and be waiting in Albuquerque when they opened at 10am.The next two stores went better, but the damage had been done.Phoenix, having finished only three stores.Good night, I that I'm not really saying much.Norah loves to help her Mommy fold clothes.The clothes hamper serves as endlessly useful in this endeavor.This is my second entry in my good friend, Mark's photo sense of looking through something.Yesterday, I took a slightly extended lunch break to try out the newly availible recreation of the"family bike trip."Moonshot and various family went in to get me a new bike for Christmas and we fixed up the old bike (a loaner from my buddy Duke) so Moonshot could ride it.We also sprung for a swanky little towbehind contraption that will allow Norah to come along for the ride.She squeeled in delight for the duration of the short test trip and did NOT want to leave her chariot when we returned home.It's been just above freezing and rainy for four days.To see butter munching up small companies like ours.With such massive change looming on the horizon, I was hesitant to commit too much of anything.The corporate equivalent of folding up the chairs and pulling down the streamers after a wedding reception.JET has done a wonderful job of running everything up there in my absence, but taking more of an active roll in that investment will be good for my The woman who lived here before us was a great lover of the color pink.It seems like the blossoms (not really blossoms, but whatever) are coming out really late this year, but it sure is pretty.On SE 51st Street just before Siemens' driveway.Tim Robbins is a research psychologist attempting to teach table manners to mice (and then to Ifans).The result is occasionally funny, but more often just made me wince, whether from sympathy with the characters or the actors or my own mildly offended sensibilities, I can't really say.The Scholars of Night by John M.Ford does a fine job with the story, writing a whole raft of characters who do believable things for believable reasons.The plotting moves at a breakneck pace throughout.Apart from a few genre references from the characters themselves, you'd never suspect that Ford has written mostly science fiction or that the publisher of this book, Tor, publishes mostly science fiction.Rivers and Tides
Becky saw a review of this film in the paper on Friday and forwarded it to me at work.The movie is a documentary filmed by Thomas Riedelsheimer showing the construction (and destruction) of many different works interleaved with interview footage.Riedelsheimer has done us a huge service by making this film.Goldsworthy's still photographs give his pieces an illusion of stability and permanence.For one thing, the first few minutes of the director's commentary track revealed that they changed the male lead into an American for the film which probably would have bugged the heck out of me had I known it while watching the movie.Jeremy Northam as his usual charming Englishman and Jennifer Ehle being sweetly impish as his lady love.The movie is okay, but I suspect I'd enjoy the book more.This one is just off Gilman Blvd behind the caboose.Beggars and Choosers by Nancy Kress
Beggars and Choosers is a sequel to Kress's Beggars in Spain.The book takes up pretty much where its predecessor left off.Kress depicts a US on the verge of some kind of revolution.While all of this uncertainty is, perhaps, a realistic situation, it doesn't make for a very compelling story line.Hats for cats
This site is all in Japanese, but the pictures speak for themselves.Gotta admit they're kind of cute, though.The first two are in the lobby, the second two inside the hall.Benaroya is home of the Seattle Symphony and opened to great fanfare a few years ago.It was a phenomenally good show."Mad Times" photo log) so when I saw another one I thought I'd start a series.I'm not sure if this recommendation was specifically in response to my personal neuroses or if he just recommends it to all his patients.The author is a Toltec shaman and the book claims to be a presentation of a part of the wisdom of that tradition.By "be impeccable with your word", Ruiz means the obvious "say what you mean and mean what you say," but also the more abstract admonition that you should use the power of language only for good.It's hard not to be glib when reviewing a book like this.Ruiz could have spent a bit less time in the book explaining what he meant, and a bit more explaining how to implement.I'll certainly play with them as a framework for self improvement on a trial basis and see how it goes.He's also credited as writer, cinematographer, editor, production designer, sound effects editor, and visual effects supervisor plus he shares credit as producer and composer!James Bond would kill for.Relative unknowns Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara reprise their roles as the children of spy parents.This time the kids are spies in their own right and head off on a mission of their own.You find a city near you and sign up for topic areas.Meetups get scheduled for a topic area and the people who signed up for it get to vote on where the meetup will occur, then once a location is chosen, RSVP with their intention of attending.Cool way to meet people in your area with similar interests.Joyce and Marty have two new babies.Cocoa and Cricket were born on January 7th.They're Yorkshire Terriers and should grow to be about 5 pounds each.It's long, but read it anyway.We've bored at least a few people with this story, but didn't have a picture of the sign (we were too busy looking out for frightened families to take a picture), but now we do.On my way home, it still being light, I swung by the rock to see what he'd been snapping at.Probably his picture is better than mine.The movie is about a little girl named Chihiro who is moving to a new city along with her parents.Design and food
Here's about as odd a selection of photos as you're likely to see in close proximity.The score computer at Sun Villa Lanes bowling alley taken at my last league bowling session for the season.This is the catalog that accompanied an exhibition of his photographs and paintings in 2002.Mortensen's photographs are daily snapshots with a painterly eye to composition and salvaging evocative images out of shots that as representative photographs seem like complete failures.The paintings are more interesting.Most are palimpsests of paint and image and random squiggles and written words that come out looking like snapshots of brain states.I'm sticking with the practice of putting the review on the day I finished the book rather than when the review was written, so I'll stick a pointer in here when things happen far out of sequence for any of my readers who might just scan back until they see entries they've seen.Akira by Katushiro Otomo

We recently saw one of John Cleese's (of Monty Python fame) Training Videos which was all about the importance of managers giving praise to their reports.I'd get a paper back with a grade marked on it but without any guidance about what specifically was wrong, and what specifically could be improved.
