Isko biography, Isko discography

Please mark your calendars for the ISKO UK event entitled Sharing Vocabularies on the Web via Simple Knowledge Organization System (SKOS) which will take place on 21 July 2008 at University College London.SKOS (Simple Knowledge Organization System) development aims to bring forward these capabilities.Aware of the growing importance of SKOS, ISKO UK in cooperation with School of Library, Archives and Information Studies at UCL has invited a group of experts to introduce this standard, explain its status, potential and scope. Our speakers are involved in the development and application of SKOS and related standards and are hoping to provoke some interesting discussion. This event, the third in ISKO UK's KOnnecting KOmmunities series, promises a fascinating glimpse of the future of controlled vocabularies. No one involved or interested in the development, management or implementation of controlled vocabularies can afford to miss it.Read more and book your place on the event's page.We would like to invite you to the next ISKO UK open meeting entitled Agenda for Information Retrieval to be held on 26 June 2008 at University College London. An ISKO UK open meeting entitled Confronting the Future took place on 5th of March. In 2008, ISKO UK plans more events on specific topics in knowledge organisation. The floor was given to speakers from two professional organizations: Peter Griffiths from the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals and Paul Dodgson from the Records Management Society.Write your own links to knowledge organization resources through KO swicki!Online construction of alphabetic classaurus: a vocabulary control and indexing tool, by F.Devadason (the online version of the article published in Processing and Management, Vol.Prolegomena to Library Classification (1967) and other books by S.An ISKO UK open meeting entitled Confronting the Future took place on 5th of March following the ISKO UK Annual General Meeting at which we were delighted to welcome Jean Aitchison and Prof.Brian Vickery as Honorary Members of ISKO UK.In 2008, ISKO UK plans more events on specific topics in knowledge organisation. The event was organized in conjuction with the School of Library Archives and Information Studies at UCL, was attended by over fifty participants and provided an excellent opportunity for networking.Paul Dodgson is using this as the basis of a master degree dissertation which he hopes to complete by July 2008.Peter suggested some possible groupings of stakeholders, and categorised the challenges that CILIP is presently concerned with, before looking at ways in which the profession as a whole (and its professional bodies) might address these issues in order to ensure that its voice is heard and heeded.ISKO International Society for Knowledge Organization ISKO president: Dr.Clare Beghtol ISKO secretariat: Dr.Felix cleverly sidesteps potential problems in this area by eliminating these steps entirely. The only real caveat here is that you will want to work on a copy of the document you are translating, rather than the original document, just to make sure that you have a backup of the original text in the unlikely event that something goes wrong while you are working. This is a common sense rule that should be observed when using any CAT tool, however, so it does not stand out as something that you would need to pay special attention to when using Felix. In technical documentation, for example, it is common for the commands in the menus of software applications to be enclosed in brackets in Japanese, but those same commands are typically written without the brackets in bold text when translated into English.Formatting changes like this are important to ensure that the translation reads naturally in the target language. Some CAT tools make the mistake of assuming that formatting present in the original must also be present in the translation (this is particularly true of the ones that import the source text into an external editor), but Felix avoids making any assumptions in this area and instead allows the translator to control the way the text is formatted as an integral part of its translation workflow.Works in the Application in QuestionSDL Trados and Wordfast both work directly in Microsoft Word, but when it comes to Excel or PowerPoint documents, the translator is required to either switch to a different application (Trados) or attempt to bring text from those types of documents into Word for translation and then export the finished product back to the original files (Wordfast). In the case of HTML files, Felix also requires the use of a different application (the WYSIWYG TagAssist editor), but even in this case the translator is still working in an environment that makes it possible to edit the content of the document while translating, which is an important thing to be able to do in many cases. The ability to draw from an unlimited number of translation memories and glossaries is not unique to Felix (OmegaT and Deja Vu X offer this as well), but as far as I know Felix is the only CAT tool that works directly in the application in question that offers this capability.TMs and glossaries is flexible, powerful, and best of all uncomplicated. All of these things, when used together, make it easy to get started using Felix right away.ConclusionFor a single translator working primarily on translations of Microsoft Office documents or HTML files in a Windows environment, Felix is an attractively priced, compellingly robust offering.TMs and glossaries over a network, so it is not yet suitable for use by translation teams of the sort you might find in an agency or corporate environment, but the development roadmap suggests that this kind of capability is coming soon.Once this is in place, I would recommend Felix for anyone who needs a translation tool that is simple yet powerful, easy to learn and easy to use, and lets you work the way you want to, without getting in the way.Last night I met briefly with a friend who happened to have a copy of the latest release of Linux Mint on a USB drive, so I borrowed the drive for a few minutes to see if I could boot from it and run Linux on my Eee PC.Mint, as I saw last night, works well.PC was a really good fit for my needs. What Japan Thinks), and can vouch for the fact that it is a constant problem with no particularly good solution (at least, none that I am aware of).You either reject all mail not sent from other cell phones or you accept everything, for example. Why is it that phone companies do not takea much harder line on spam? The survey results indicate that it is pretty clearly a common problem.B) they charge you for the spam you receive anyway, so their motivation to eliminate that particular stream of revenue is too low for them to act on.This evening on the way home from work I purchased up an ASUS Eee PC.With the Eee PC, however, both of these things are much less of a concern.Windows and install Linux on this new toy of mine. One of the most impressive things about OmegaT, however, is that although it has many robust features, it is developed by a team of volunteers who make it available to anyone who would like to use it absolutely free of charge.Meet Felix, a clever new CAT tool made by GITS Which Linux distro for the Eee PC?This was an organizing conference for the North American Chapter of ISKO, and a paper session on the state of the art of Knowledge Organization research. We are a diverse, yet committed, set of researchers interested in asking basic and applied questions on how knowledge is organized and how such organization can be improved through research. As ISKO members we are also are interested in forming a North American chapter in order to attain critical mass for KO researchers to share research findings, mentor students and maintain continuous conversations across the large landmass of North America. What are your needs as a Knowledge Organization researcher? What can a North American chapter do for your research program? For further information, please consult the ISKO website.
