Jackdaw4 biography, Jackdaw4 discography

Power pop music and an honest opinion. It isn't the second coming of The Jellyfish, but it's pretty damn close. My imagination runs wild with this humorous take on corporate hubris. To me, it's the opening number in "Steve Jobs, The Musical" and will run through your head for weeks. This track also reminds me of the latest Honeydogs album. The production on the entire album is flawless as well.Like Bryan Scary's album last year, you may give up trying to spot the influence and enjoy this carnival of sounds.Speaking of carnival, the goofy "Heimlich's Manoeuvres" takes the concept a bit over the edge, like listening to Pink Floyd's "The Trial" with another song slowly fading in.My favorite track (it's hard to pick) is "The End of The Party" a perfect mix of melodic hook and hard rock riff.Every track is relevatory, without any weakness and will have you crying for more.Martin Newell interviewed and more.March 4, 2008 Posted by jackdaw4 in Willie.Willie here with a quick note and a few bits of info, coupled with a list of unreasonable demands.Cheezy I know, but it does give one a warm tingle when you email in your complementary comments.Of course traditionally, a huge amount of money is spent on adverts in the papers, television appearances and viral campaigns and what have you, all of which mean that your local DJ has numerous opportunities to be reminded of a records existence, and none of which we can afford. But the best way to encourage them to play it is when they believe that their listeners are requesting it.Manx Radio, Isle of Man.The national stations need telling about the album and most of the shows on Radio 2 and Radio 1 take text or email requests. No more haranguing this time I promise.February 6, 2008 Posted by jackdaw4 in Willie. One year out is a simple mistake to make but six is just peculiar and unexplainable. Then off to London to tart it up, Shepperton to mix it, Berlin to sell it, and occasionally back to France to try and forget all about it.Well a few things actually.October 14, 2007 Posted by jackdaw4 in Willie. But before you do that you have to persuade five able minded people to join together in a suitably sized and equipped room, with all their abilities in peak condition, and then stroke the tunes out of them. There is always a period of uncertainty for me after a new album is finished. As you will have noticed, it is a very different world for new bands right now.The old paradigms are gone. The way we listen to, and buy music, are radically altered, and whereas the internet has meant that people all over the world can access a bands music, and computers have meant that pretty well any band can make a CD, it is ironically incredibly difficult for a band to raise awareness and reach a new and bigger audience.September 15, 2007 Posted by jackdaw4 in Willie.Saturday November 24th at the Soho Review Bar in London.July 15, 2007 Posted by jackdaw4 in Willie. And so some brave individuals go out in to the world in a desperate attempt to get to the truth. This is of course where most fall off the map. What a bunch of sheep we are.Ah well, I guess its good to have a hobby of some kind.Fkkkkkk) May 11, 2007 Posted by jackdaw4 in Willie. That is to say, I took the previously backed up versions from my backup hard drive, and copied them over to my working drive, in the process, irretrievably deleting the brand spanking new, finished versions of the three songs. This lead to a great deal of cursing and wailing, and several newly invented profanities hurled at a God that the sane part of me does not believe in.Logic recording setup in my studio in London.BBC3 and BBC2, for a new idea he is working on.In a manner of speaking.Rollins) March 27, 2007 Posted by jackdaw4 in Willie.Miller studio recordings at the BBC.Saturday, but postponed when John (Steel) rang to say that he could come over for a couple of days if I could wait until Monday.Internet phenomena like YouTube and MySpace, I rarely venture that way.YouTube for anything on Ann Coulter.John and I wrote for the new album.Sieve through the crap and it seems that the golden nuggets appear.March 19, 2007 Posted by jackdaw4 in Willie. So much for the collected thoughts of chairman Wilf on a weekly basis. There just seemed to be other things to do.Miller record material at the BBC for their new series, which should be on BBC1 in the autumn. So many knobs to twiddle and so few fingers.Incidentally, we may put the original SugarPlumFairies version up on the Jackdaw4.Tony Hawks lives in France.March 1, 2007 Posted by jackdaw4 in Willie.TV show, with Mel C, which you might have seen last Friday (If not you can view it on YouTube). He stayed with me in West London, and we finished the bass parts when he was free.TV work with Pete Baikie over the last six or seven years.Very quickly he became a good friend, and we subsequently worked together on a number of shows.February 8, 2007 Posted by jackdaw4 in Willie.Quite why I bought in France at all is really the question, and with the benefit of hindsight I have three main reasons for this.Reason number one: the bleeding obvious. The cherry on the cake and the reson that actually inspired the decision that very night, to look across the water for a house, was the day that war against Iraq commenced. This information and erstwhile statement of intent, had long been in the public domain and yet they still got away with it.It matters not to Rumsfeld and co.They are willing to suffer the various indignities of political life so long as their cause is advanced and more importantly, their nests are adequately feathered. That a Labour government could dupe the nation so blatantly, in amongst the hundreds of other Thatcherite decisions they had already made and continue to make.Furthermore, it caused me to wonder, that if these are the visible signs of the way that democracy has been rendered impotent, what lies beneath, as yet undiscovered? Not that the political system in France is perfect, but at least the French had the strength of character to stand up to the Americans and question their motives.Frankly, after so many years of this repetitious and predictable pattern, life was becoming very, very dull.In short, probably not worthy or suitable for sharing. And if you are patient enough, psychiatrists will invent a new vocabulary to encapsulate the blog, and a profitable sideline in drugs designed to quell the urge to ever write one. When you come across that rare album that arrives fully realized and oozing with rich, melodic pop talent, the temptation is to drop everything and go shout its praises from the rooftop. He's joined by the expert talents of Greg Hatwell (vocals, guitars and percussion), Andy Lewis (vocals, bass, double bass) and Andy Robertson (drums, percussion), along with a number of guest musicians.Born out of the remains of a band project known as the Celebrity Squares, Jackdaw4 delivers 10 songs that show a wide range of sounds that derive from the rock gods Lennon and McCartney and Wilson. From the first guitar chord's strum, we're off on a rollicking musical journey. If this is your life, then you can keep it".Many bands aspire to capture that signature Jellyfish sound (Queen meets Beach Boys and then some), but few succeed."King for a Day" shows us a different side of Jackdaw4.The vocals are laidback (and remind me of Del Amitri's Justin Currie) and there's a different rock flavor at work. And it seems so close somehow".This is song as social censure, taking a hard, cynical look at the state of things, politics and otherwise, ultimately declaring "the future's not what it used to be"."Maybe You Know" shows the quieter side of Jackdaw4.The CD closes with the grand horns that announce the opening of "Happy? It's fresh yet familiar, a debut that surprisingly sounds like a band at its mature height.Marginal Utility: Having more money vs.The Black Angels: Directions to See a Ghost :.In bold are PopMatters Picks, the best in new music.Allen Toussaint Cut Chemist Dabrye Miles Davis Daedelus Dinosaur Jr.Click Here to hear more!"Please select an option before clicking 'Add to Bioplar Diversions, the sophomore effort from London's Jackdaw4, should have no problem cracking any year's power pop top 20 or better.Sparkwood cracked my 2005 Top 20.They knock it right out of park with "SOOMA (All This Vision)" in which they display a gift for both melody and humor (SOOMA stands for Shines out of My Ass, as in "the sun") along with a nod to Queen. Many recent bands have tried to make a "Jellyfish record", but have only succeeded with a track or two or three.Jackdaw4 have truly done it here, creating a record that is more than the sum of its parts or its influences.ELO that stood on its own as a great album, and here we have Jellyfish essentially receiving the same treatment."Hey, check out this Jackdaw4 concert...Rockfan90(how do I call you?Are you all coming to the
