"Up until then, people had nothing to say but good words and respect, so I just had to laugh."KaliRoots has been together for three years, playing mostly in and around Montreal, boasting a repertoire that includes songs in both English and French.Their music does plenty to dispel any misbegotten bias that skeptical closed minds may have, bringing the focus right back to the music, where it should have been in the first place."We don't have any real competition, I guess," says Peddie, grinning again."There doesn't seem to be any other white reggae bands playing in French and English."Some may remember that back in February, KaliRoots had the ultimate opportunity to represent Montreal and themselves when they opened for the legendary Wailers at a packed show at the Medley.Wailers as well as the audience."Apparently Tuff Gong Records president Cassandra Goins has shown more than a little interest in the band after approaching them at a recent show.Negotiations are now in the works, but in the meantime KaliRoots continue to bring the positive vibes the best way they know how.This document was created Thursday, May 7, 1998.Rhode Island Reggae at
