BIO:
I was born in Shelby,Mississippi but actually grew up in Mound Bayou,Mississippi which happens to be the oldest all black town in the United States.Growing up in Mound Bayou was a great experience for me.It was a small town rich with African American culture.This was my first experience with people using profanity and drinking alcoholic beverages.He passed when I was only eight years old and he had quit all those things that I heard about him when he met my mother.He was a strong positive man and I loved him dearly.This was also my introduction to the blues and southern soul music.Those times were truly the good old days.College at the time would have been hard for my family so thats why I joined the military.The country was at peace.Basic Training(boot camp)in Orlando,Florida and I attended A School in Meridian,Mississippi.For a country boy from Mississippi to experience a blizzard for the very first time was not good.We got stationed in Alameda,California just outside of Oakland and San Francisco.GOD allowed me to return home safe.I've started a family and I just purchased a new home a couple of years ago.Inventory Clerk(Group Leader) for Pharmedium Healthcare in Cleveland,Mississippi.BLUES AND SOUTHERN SOUL:
I've always been a fan of the blues and southern soul music.Today academy award winning actor Morgan Freeman has a blues Club called Ground Zero located in this Delta town.The club plays host to some of the biggest blues and southern soul artists today as well as local artists.If you are ever in Clarksdale,Mississippi please checkout Ground Zero.Greenville,Mississippi andthis was the home of The Legendary Hall Of Famer Tyrone Davis.Tyrone Davis perform at the outdoor blues shows when I was just a little kid.Just like Tyrone Davis I saw Denise Lasalle when I was just a little kid.The Queen is still going strong.The Late Great Little Milton Campbell.The small town of Drew,MS is only about ten(10) miles to the west of where I grew up and this was the home of The Staple Singers(Roebuck"Pop"Staples).Finally there is one town about twenty miles(20) to the west of where I grew up that is rich with blues and southern soul.He doesn't make it back as frequently as he use to but every year for his homecoming he performs outdoors at Fletcher Park.King back in the late 1940's.Indianola is also the home of The Great Albert King.He performs in this area quite often and his fan base is steady growing.King and Willie Clayton still perform there whenever they come home.The juke joint is called "Club Ebony".This juke joint has played host to the likes of Ray Charles,Count Basie,James Brown,Ike Turner,Little Milton,Bobby Blue Bland,Howlin Wolf,Rufus Thomas,Bobby Rush,Denise Lasalle and even southern soul artists Sir Charles and T.King,Tyrone Davis,Johnnie Taylor,Marvin Sease,Willie Clayton,Wilson Meadows,J.Blackfoot,Mel Waiters,Denise Lasalle,Shirley Brown,Jackie Neal,Omar Cunningham,T.As we waited to take the picture we were holding hands and I was like a little kid at Christmas time.Five(5) days later Jackie Neal was shot and killed.Her music and that photo brings a smile to my face.Tyrone Davis again anytime because he still played in my area so frequently.September 2004 Tyrone Davis suffered a stroke and by October he went into a coma.It had been a couple of years since I had seen him perform last.To be honest I can't remember exactly the last time I saw him perform but I said to myself whenever there is a show in my area,I'll be there.I've taken several pictures with Marvin Sease,Willie Clayton and Omar Cunningham.When I see them at a show now they greet me as Big K9.If you buy these hip hop artist cd's and you attend some of their shows you could never ever get close to these so called mega superstars but with blues and southern soul artists you can greet them and even pose for pictures.People really enjoy viewing my photos and I am more than glad to share them with people.BARKING WITH DA BIG DAWG!BIG K9(BLUES NEWS FROM DA ...BLUES AND SOUTHERN SOUL LEG...SOUTHERN SOUL BIOS IV
