Today the name Odissi refers to the
dance style of the state of Orissa in eastern India.Odissi is the product of a 20th century revival.Over the years Odissi has become one of
the most popular classical dance styles.When mastered, it is the epitome of fluid
grace and has a distinctively lyrical quality that is very appealing.Line on the internet medium
since 1998.Odissi, the essence of the state of Orissa.Brahmeswara, Sun Temple at Konark, depict
the Odissi dance form.In 1950s with Abhinaya Chandrika's perseverance,
the dance form could be revived back to its original glory and fame.Odissi is considered to be one of the oldest surviving dance forms
based on archaeological evidence.Maharis are the counterparts of the Devadasis
of the South.After 17th century Odissi also declined to great levels, as at that
time dancers were considered to be shameless.Kalicharan Pattanayaka who presented Odissi artists on the stage and
encouraged others to follow suit.Odissi is similar to Bharatnatyam with respect to the mudras and
expressions.The 'Tribhang' or the divison of the body into 3 parts,
head, bust and torso is a striking feature of Odissi.The Odissi dancers use their head, bust and torso in

I studied Odissi for six months.India again the next

of Orissa.While in India I was inspired by the artwork I saw and made a series
