U.Glory is, without question, one of the best movies ever made about the American Civil War (a."The War Between the States").Rather, it is the way in which the filmmakers weave an impressively large historical tapestry without ever losing sight of the characters that make up the individual threads.Glory has important things to say, yet it does so without becoming pedantic.Glory tells the story of the 54th Regiment of Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, the "trial balloon" for black soldiers. At first, the army intended to use them only for manual labor, but, later in the war, some saw combat. In fact, a great deal of effort went into getting the details correct. The danger in this approach is that it becomes easy to trivialize the individuals, turning them into types rather than people.Fortunately, Jarre's screenplay avoids the trap.Glory opens with a brief prologue at Antietum, one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War.Later, after returning home on leave, he learns that the United States government is planning to form a regiment comprised exclusively of black soldiers. In addition to focusing on Shaw and Forbes, Glory turns the camera on the small group of men who share a tent: the angry and resentful Private Trip (Denzel Washington); Private Jupiter Sharts (Jhimi Kennedy), a crack shot with a nervous disposition; Corporal Thomas Searles (Andre Braugher), an educated man who grew up with Shaw; and Sgt.The first half of Glory follows the Massachusetts 54th as they undergo training, some of which is brutal. There are times when Shaw seems out of his depth, such as when he has Trip publicly flogged for desertion (the standard punishment for the act, but, once the scars from past whippings on Trip's back are revealed, it is shown to be the result of poor judgment). At first, they perform a series of menial tasks, such as burning an unprotected town.Eventually, however, Shaw convinces the army to use the Massachusetts 54th in combat, and, after winning a skirmish, they become the vanguard for an attack on the seemingly impregnable Fort Wagner.Colonel), but from those of Trip, Jupiter, Thomas, and Rawlins. In the end, none of these men are shortchanged.Obviously, the issue of racial inequality is at the film's forefront. What began with the 54th regiment continued throughout the Civil War and through two world wars. The greatest achievement of the 54th was to prove to the army that black soldiers could be relied upon to fight with the same tenacity and patriotism as white soldiers. One of the myths of the 1800s is that blacks were treated with fairness and equity in the North.Often, this was not the case. There are plenty of white, Union soldiers who believe Shaw's men to be incapable of doing anything more meaningful than menial tasks.Brotherhood is often a key theme of war stories (witness the title of the recent HBO series, "Band of Brothers"), and, to a certain extent, it is here. One of the movie's most memorable scenes occurs the night before the assault on Fort Wagner, as various members of the regiment gather to sing songs, pray, and offer up words of inspiration. In the heat of the fight, men are color blind. And Rawlins has to accept a position of leadership. And it accomplishes both of those aims by eschewing overt manipulation in favor of strong writing and effective character development. At the time he was offered the part, Broderick was better known as the teen rebel of War Games and Ferris Bueller's Day Off than as a serious actor. For Glory's director, Edward Zwick, this represented a leap from the small screen to the big one.The success of this movie, a good portion of which was credited to Zwick, opened doors for him.He would go on to direct such memorable films as Courage Under Fire and the eerily prescient The Siege (both with Denzel Washington).Freddie Francis' cinematography is crisp and clear, as befits an epic.Francis faced, and surmounted, the challenge of having to shoot much of the film in gloom and during cloudbursts.Glory takes place after dark, including the final scene. Finally, James Horner's score is a nearly perfect accompaniment to the visuals. This is one of those occasions when the composer doesn't appear to be repeating himself, or cannibalizing his previous work.In large part because of the film, there has been a greater awareness of the importance of African American soldiers in the Civil War.Even if it were not for that development, Glory would still be a memorable motion picture. It has all the elements of a great film, and it remains as stirring and forceful today as it was during its initial release. So doxa, as a translation of kabod,

Cor.Our special glory seems to consist, in part, in the hope we hold to:

of this manifested truth works towards a union of man with God.In other
passages glory is equivalent to praise rendered to God in acknowledgment of His
majesty and perfections manifested objectively in the world, or through
supernatural revelation: "Thou art worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory, and
honour, and power: because thou hast created all things", Apoc."For they loved the glory of
men more than the glory of God".Lastly, glory is the name given to the
blessedness of the future life in which the soul is united to God: "For I reckon
that the sufferings of this time are not worthy to be compared with the glory to
come", Rom.THEOLOGICAL

The Eternal God has by an act of His will created, that is, has brought into
being from nothingness, all things that are.Himself, nothing but Himself could be an end
worthy of His action.Did He, then, create in order that from His creatures
He might derive some benefit? His Being might be enlarged or perfected?Him
might aid Him in the elimination of evil which He by Himself is unable to cast
out?Omnipotent, He stands in need of no assistance to carry His will into
execution. His giving constitutes the limitations of their being.Contemplating
the boundless ocean of His reality, He perceives it as imitable ad extra, as an
inexhaustible fund of exemplar ideas which may, if He so wills, be reproduced in
an order of finite existence distinct from, yet dependent on His own, deriving
their dower of actuality from His infinite fullness which in imparting sustains

Great Exemplar.God has recorded His greatness and majesty.Hence, this glory which it renders to Him is called in theological phrase gloria
materialis, to distinguish it from the formal glory rendered to God by His
intelligent creatures.The gift of intellect
also imposes on man the duty of returning to God that formal glory of which we
have just spoken. To know God through the
medium of this supernaturally revealed truth, to serve Him in love springing
from this grace is to be "Filled with the fruit of justice, through Jesus
Christ, unto the glory and praise of God" (Phil.Likewise man achieves his perfection or subjective end by giving glory

be an unending ineffable manifestation and acknowledgment of the Divine majesty
and perfections. The Catholic doctrine on this subject is defined by the Council of Florence (see
Denzinger, 588).The moral question arises, is the desire and pursuit of this glory lawful?Posing the question whether the desire of glory is sinful, he proceeds to answer
it in the following sense: Glory imports the manifestation of something which is
estimated honourable, whether it be a spiritual or a corporal good."Let your light shine before men, that they may see your
good works" (Matthew 5:16).This habit is ranked among the capital sins, or, more properly vices,
because it is prolific of other sins, viz.New York: Robert Appleton

the body heals itself. We give medications, that only mask
the pain, suppress vital functions, or cause gastrointestinal bleeding.Others are sent
to surgery or endless therapy that cost astronomical sums. After all this,
the patient may be in worse pain than before we started.Everyone knows that injury causes pain
but what is the cause of pain when there has been no injury? We are aware of the sensation of touch
because cells are pushed closer together. The increased flow of electricity is what tells
us we have been touched. When something hits us, it sends a quick
burst of electricity to the brain. The brain senses the injury because of a signal from the
damaged tissue to the brain. What about pain that is not caused by
an injury?Degenerative diseases, dehydration, inflammation, infection, ulcers,
tumors, lack of minerals spontaneous fractures, allergies, etc.The failure of electrical connections
between cells ("blockage of chi") is not only the cause of pain but all degenerative
diseases according to Traditional Chinese Medicine. The theory is not so incredulous
when we know that the brain works electrically and that we are "brain dead"
when there is no more electricity going across our brain. All cells will
die or become degenerate if electrical signals are broken or suppressed. If pain is the breaking, suppression,
or failure of the body's electrical circuits, how does the body heal pain?Pain is healed when the body reconnects the broken circuits. The medication only masks the pain
and does nothing for the broken circuits that cause the pain.An instrument that measures electrical resistance can non invasively
detect where the circuits have failed. When there is pain, the part of the body that hurts always has more electrical
resistance. This means the electrical signals between cells are suppressed. And if you can keep the circuits turned
on, the pain will not return. How do you maintain the flow of electricity
("chi" or "life force") so the pain does not return? One treatment
