Quiet Sun biography, Quiet Sun discography
QUIET SUN was first formed in 72 but later disbanded as various members evolved into other groups. With the help of Brian Eno, this album is full of superb interplay with long tracks every member writing two tracks except for Mc Cormick only one.Later on, Manzanera and McCormick will form the 801 group that will also release two albums.Recommended to progheads liking UFO's from the 70's.Because it is absolutely essential prog. Most of the instrumentals on this album share some common references and influences. Two songs stand apart from the others.Ravel with understated electronic keyboards more similar to 60s lounge interpretations of classical music rather than rock.Too bad this is the only release by this amazing band, it would have been nice to hear more. The album has a horizon of music and mottoes so enlarged, that it spreads genuine affection for
uncustomary, converted or styled (deeply) interesting qualities.Where it breathtakes and where it fails really
comes to sound as secondary and bit too deeply preferential.Dave Jarrett works on the complex and feisty keyboard session in Mainstream, but Hayward and Manzanera also join it,
the keyboard stuff is huge, addictive and pretty much taken out of normal shapes. The second part is even better, the word of playing it being "excruciating"
but meaning "mindblowing".It is only after this one that good standards continue or stop to appear.Great guitar melody and bossy grooves, but that's
all.Canterbury trademark Organ solo's, spaced guitars...The music can range between mellow and dramatic at the drop of a hat.Anyway, "Sol Caliente", "Mummy was an asteroid...""Trumpets With Motherhood" and "R.Shamal or anyone who might be interested.May 5, 2005: There's a myth about the sun. This is called solar maximum.Hathaway of the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center.Recent events bear this out: Rewind to January 10, 2005.The next day, with stunning rapidity, everything changes. So much for the quiet sun.It almost happened again last month.Predicting solar activity is more important than ever.Moon and then on to Mars. Will the sun be quiet when it's supposed to be?NASA is to help the public understand how
exciting NASA research is and to help NASA scientists fulfill their
outreach responsibilities. The bulk of the Sun is made of
hydrogen.Because of this only three groups
of elements as needed by astronomers: Hydrogen, Helium, and Other (called
metals).Throughout
most of the 20th century a question that has lingered in astronomy
is the power source of the Sun.But the entire Sun would be consumed in a
mere 3000 years by this process. We can
eliminate fire as an energy source. Our reliable time scale is
not long enough for a definitive conclusion, but this process can power the Sun
for a few hundred million years before the Sun would have shrunk to a
point.Sun would produce a
warmer environment in the early history of our planet. The
beginning of particle physics produced new ideas about the energy source of the
Sun.Hydrogen fusion is the
process of combining hydrogen nuclei into helium nuclei. Now
moving fast is the same as the concept of temperature, so fusion can only
happen at high temperature. Each step in the reaction sequence has been
verified in the particle accelerators. Now the mass of four protons is very slightly more than the mass of one
helium nucleus, and the other particles listed are insufficient to make up the
difference.Here
E is energy, m is mass, and c is the speed of light. Is
there something in the reaction can actually be observed coming from the
Sun?It is estimated that the photons being produced in the core of
the Sun now will be emitted on the surface of the Sun in 10 million years. The positron will quickly annihilate itself
with a nearby electron.The neutrino,
however, is a very illusive particle. After the neutrino was discovered (some 22 years after its
prediction), it had precisely these properties. It is the illusive nature that makes it a prime candidate to test
the hydrogen fusion sequence believed to power the Sun.Eight minutes later, traveling at the speed of light, it arrives at
Earth. If we could somehow capture the
neutrino, we could study the nuclear reactions taking place right now.By
1968 a solar neutrino telescope began operations in Lead, SD.Cleaning fluid is mostly
chlorine. The energy is transferred out to the surface
in two distinct ways in the Sun.This region is
called the radiative zone.Atoms
will absorb the photons and remit them. The
radiative and convective zones of the Sun contribute in another very important
way.The mass that they contain presses
on the core, keeping the temperature and pressure high enough in the core to
sustain the nuclear reactions.Without
the overburden of the weight of these zones, the Sun could not shine. In a very
small angle (about one arcsecond), corresponding to a very short distance in
the photosphere (about 700 km), the gases of the photosphere go from opaque to
transparent.The
second simple observation is that the Sun shows limb darkening, the
edges of the photosphere appear darker than the center of the disk.Lines of sight toward the limb do not permit
us to see into the photosphere as deeply as the line of sight toward the center
of the disk.Temperature must decrease rapidly with
height in the photosphere. In the short
700 km of the photosphere, the temperature drops almost 2000 K.Under
high magnification we see that the surface of the photosphere is composed of
small cells called granulation. These cells represent a convection pattern.Hot gases rise up in the centers of the cells. The gas cools and sinks back below the surface
at the edges of the cells.Recall that
directly below the photosphere lies the convective zone.We may be seeing the topmost layer of
convective cells. At these wavelengths it is as if the fog has
gotten thicker, absorbing light not only in the usual way, but also extra light
due to the element causing the deep absorption. The
chromosphere has jets of gas rising quickly upward (spicules). One of the most perplexing aspects of the
chromosphere is the fact that the temperature rises as we move up in this
layer.Starting at the 4150 K of the
uppermost part of the photosphere, the temperature rises to over 50,000 K at
the top of the chromosphere. This region has no distinct end, extending farther
from the Sun as we increase the exposure of the camera taking the picture.During times of sunspot maximum,
the corona is more extensive and looks rather like the result of sprinkling
iron filings on a bar magnet. The solar wind comes from the holes. The solar wind is simply the outer layers of the corona boiling away
into space.Another
line of reasoning leads to the conclusion that the corona is very hot.Receive Free You Heard It!Carrie Underwood

Bluegrass queen has new CD.The band name came from an article on sunspots and solar flares that MacCormick's brother Ian had been reading, called "The Year of the Quiet Sun."England gaining a small following, but were never signed.Three years later, Manzanera was riding high on Roxy Music and decided to reform Quiet Sun while spending the latter part of 1974 working on a solo album to be known as Diamond Head.Quiet Sun for four, resulting in Mainstream.Robert Wyatt as "Team Spirit" on Ruth Is Stranger Than Richard) and "Alma."Hayward left to form This Heat. For a while, after initial pressings of Mainstream went out of print, the CD of the album was only obtainable through an expensive Japanese import.Roxy Quiet Sun demos were released in 2000 on Manzanera's Rare One.Radio emission, in contrast,
occurs under conditions of LTE and therefore provides observers with a
convenient, linear thermometer with which to probe the chromospheric
medium. While information is available about the
brightness temperature spectrum over the wavelength range relevant to
the chromosphere and transition region, it represents a spatial
average over complex structure.Because of the small field of view for
frequencies GHz, a robust total power system in support of
mosaicing is especially desirable.Filaments are almost always visible in H
filtergrams of the Sun as features in absorption. While
these models have been successful in accounting for the radio spectrum
of H filaments between 3mm and 20cm, they
have been inconsistent with UV observations to the extent that the
models imply far less UV radiation than is observed. In this respect,
prominence models suffer from a problem similar to that outlined for
the solar chromosphere.Like the quiet Sun, observations of filaments, prominences, filament
channels, and filament cavities would benefit from the increased
frequency coverage and the wide bandwidth ratios proposed for the VLA.Coronal holes were discovered in the 1970's in SXRs by the ATM on
board Skylab.Prominent polar coronal holes appear
during the decline to solar minimum, and then wane and disappear as
the Sun returns to maximum levels of activity.IPM throughout the solar cycle, is of great interest.Coronal holes are dark at decimetric wavelengths for the same reason
that they appear dark in SXRs, the contrast between the quiet Sun and
a coronal hole being at 20cm.The reason for the contrast behavior of the chromosphere
in coronal holes is presently unknown.OUR STATE OF THE ART
