Sailor biography, Sailor discography

For other uses, see Sailor (disambiguation). The term can apply to professional mariners, military personnel, and recreational sailors as well as a plethora of other uses.Etymologically, the name preserves the memory of the time when ships were commonly powered by sails, but applies to the personnel of all vessels, whatever their mode of locomotion).Common categories by department include the Deck department, the Engineering department, and the Steward's department.Etymology 2 Professional mariners 2.See talk page for details. Please remove this message once the section has been expanded.Sailor, Mariner, Bluejacket are synonymous in the english language. For more details on this topic, see Deck department.Engineering staff manage bulk fuel transfers and require training in firefighting and first aid.Additional duties include maintaining the ship's boats and performing other nautical tasks.Other possible positions include Motorman, Machinist, Electrician, Refrigeration Engineer, and Tankerman. All three positions are typically filled by unlicensed personnel. The steward may requisition or purchase stores and equipment.Various types of staff officer positions may exist on board a ship, including Junior Assistant Purser, Senior Assistant Purser, Purser, Chief Purser, Medical Doctor, Professional Nurse, Marine Physician Assistant, and Hospital Corpsman. These jobs are considered administrative positions and are therefore regulated by Certificates of Registry issued by the United States Coast Guard. There is no job security after that. The length of time between voyages varies by job availability and personal preference. The rate of unionization for these workers in the United States is about 36 percent, much higher than the average for all occupations. At sea, on larger vessels mariners usually stand watch for 4 hours and are off for 8 hours, 7 days a week. However, modern safety management procedures, advanced emergency communications, and effective international rescue systems place modern mariners in a much safer position. These amenities have helped ease the sometimes difficult circumstances of long periods away from home. Also, modern communications, especially email, link modern mariners to their families.Nevertheless, some mariners dislike the long periods away from home and the confinement aboard ship.Professional mariners live on the margins of society, with much of their life spent beyond the reach of land.Yet men and women still go to sea.Whatever the calling, those who live and work at sea invariably confront social isolation.Findings by the Seafarer's International Research Center indicate a leading cause of mariners leaving the industry is "almost invariably because they want to be with their families."In rare cases, veteran mariners choose never to go ashore when in port. Moreover, some seafarers entering U.Such restrictions on shore leave coupled with reduced time in port by many ships translate into longer periods at sea.At the same time, there is an opportunity to meet people from a wide range of ethnic and cultural backgrounds. And in some cases, especially tankers, it is made possible for a mariner to be accompanied by members of his family.Members of the British Merchant Navy have won the Distinguished Service Cross, and have had careers taking them from 'Deck Boy Peter' to Air Marshal Sir Beresford Peter Torrington Horsley KCB, CBE, LVO, AFC.Canadian merchant seamen have won the Victoria Cross and the Medal of Honor.American merchant seamen have won the Medal of Honor in the Korean War and Vietnam War, and one went on to become the "Father of the American Navy."One doesn't have to look far to find merchant seamen who became war heroes in Scotland, France, New Zealand, Peru, or Denmark.British Merchant Navy member Ken Russell later directed films such as Tommy, Altered States, and The Lair of the White Worm.Merchant seaman Johnny Craig was already a working comic book artist before he joined up, but Ernie Schroeder wouldn't start drawing comics until after returning home from World War II.Merchant sailors have also made a splash in the world of sport.Drew Bundini Brown was Muhammad Ali's assistant trainer and cornerman, and Joe Gold went on to make his fortune as the bodybuilding and fitness guru of Gold's Gym.Irish Merchant Navy member Kevin McClory spent 14 days in a lifeboat and later went on to write the James Bond movies Never Say Never Again and Thunderball.Members of the American Beat Movement Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, Bob Kaufman, and Herbert Huncke were all Merchant Mariners.O, Uncle Jesse Duke on The Dukes of Hazzard, and Cheyenne Bodie on Cheyenne.Other uses An ancient term, the word "sailor," has come to mean many things. On smaller vessels with a single mate 6 hours on and 6 hours off are common.Mariners employed on Great Lakes ships work 60 days and have 30 days off. Those on smaller vessels are normally assigned to one vessel and have steady employment. This page was last modified on 16 February 2008, at 22:07.All text is available under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License. This arc is characterized by the introduction of new characters such as the Sailor Starlights, Princess Kakyuu, and ChibiChibi. The primary villain is Sailor Galaxia, queen of an organization called Shadow Galactica, who seeks to rule the galaxy by collecting "Sailor Crystals" (also called "true star seeds") from its Sailor Senshi.Of the five story arcs, Sailor Stars is the only one featuring recurring villains of only one gender (all female, because they are all Senshi). In the anime, it is also the only arc in which all the villains who die are killed by other villains.Star seed 3 Production 3.Story In the manga, the protagonist (Usagi Tsukino) and her friends had entered high school during the previous story arc; in the anime, it is delayed until the beginning of this one. While in the airport, he gives Usagi a ring to show his intention to marry her when he returns. The evil Sailor Galaxia appears for the first time and immediately destroys Mamoru, who (despite being male) bears the Sailor Crystal of Earth.Around the same time, the mysterious Sailor Starlights appear in battle, fighting the same foes as the Sailor Team but claiming different motivations and no hope of alliance. They are searching for their princess, Kakyuu, and do not care about the fate of Earth. In fact, they have disguised themselves as the Three Lights, and as males, in order to try and find her.Sailor Moon and the other Senshi continue their fight against the Sailor Animamates and gradually come to learn more about the Starlights; in the anime, this spans many episodes, but in the manga it happens fairly rapidly. In the anime, Sailor Crystals are simply called "true star seeds," ChibiChibi's true identity is completely different, and the final battle and objectives of the enemies ultimately are different.Of all the anime arcs that followed the manga, this last deviated the most sharply from the original story.Manga version In the manga, the Sailor Senshi are destroyed one by one, with Usagi entirely helpless to stop it.She starts to receive mysterious cards with pictures of the universe on them. The Outer Senshi return to their Castles to try and set up a defense shield, but are destroyed as well.Small Lady (Chibiusa) is concerned by this, and asks her mother if she can go to the past so that she can try to protect it.Sailor Wars, and the location of Sailor Galaxia's castle.Once they arrive, they have to defeat a series of evil Sailor Senshi who are protecting the way.Sailor ChibiChibi manages to save Sailor Kakyuu and Sailor Moon, but they must watch the Sailor Starlights die.During another fight, they are barely rescued by Sailor Chibi Moon and the Sailor Quartet.Shortly thereafter, Sailor Kakyuu is killed.Under Galaxia's power, the Sailor Team attacks Sailor Moon.Sailor Moon, heartbroken, now must face her dearest friends, the Sailor Team, who have been twisted along with Mamoru into Sailor Galaxia's minions.Sailor Moon dissolves them back into nothing and the final battle between Galaxia and Sailor Moon begins. With Mamoru destroyed, Sailor Chibi Moon cannot be born, so she vanishes.Sailor ChibiChibi asks Sailor Moon to destroy the Galaxy Cauldron, but Sailor Moon refuses, as it is the source of all life. When Chaos appears in the midst of the battle, Sailor Moon realizes that all her past enemies have just been incarnations of Chaos.Galaxia says that she wanted a better planet just before she dies at his hands.ChibiChibi grows older and kisses Usagi in a gesture of thanks and power.Usagi plunges herself into the Cauldron, and the older ChibiChibi reveals to the Sailor Quartet her true identity of Sailor Cosmos, a Sailor Senshi from a ruined future that fought Sailor Chaos. The Sailor Quartet join the others in the Cauldron.Guardian Cosmos says that she can return to being a star in the Cauldron forever, or return as she is back to the life she had before. She sees Chibiusa just before she leaves, who says she will be waiting in the 30th century.Mamoru looks at her and thinks to himself that Sailor Soldiers will come and go, but that Sailor Moon will be eternal, and will be the brightest star of them all.In these episodes, Queen Nehellenia is unsealed and prompted by a voice to attack Sailor Moon.Mirror shards rain down on the earth, getting stuck in people's eyes, including Mamoru Chiba.Nehellenia's monsters attack and awaken Sailor Saturn.Nehellenia kidnaps Mamoru, and the Sailor Senshi split up and attempt to rescue him.The Sailor Senshi are all captured and sealed in mirrors.Usagi falls under an enchantment that causes her to forget her mission, as she plays in a garden of flowers. She sees a rose (actually the earring of the defeated Sailor Jupiter), which restores her memories of Tuxedo Mask.In truth, it was Sailor Galaxia who had released Nehellenia from her seal, to force the reawakening of Sailor Saturn. This is not revealed until the final confrontation with Sailor Galaxia.Unlike their manga counterparts, the Sailor Animamates of the anime do not know who the bearers of the Sailor Crystals (here called "true star seeds") are.Their method is to find individuals with exceptional talents, attack them, and take their star seeds. If the star seeds are unexceptional, the Sailor Animamate abandons them to turn into a monster, a (phage) which the Sailor Senshi must fight to distract the phage so that Eternal Sailor Moon can heal the monster. The Outer Senshi view the Starlights as invaders and are suspicious of them because, as they say, the Animamates are also Sailor Senshi.Seiya's interest in Usagi causes Michiru and Haruka to think ill of him, fearing he'll try to use Usagi to his advantage. As the end of the season approaches, Galaxia finally invades Earth, having conquered the rest of the galaxy at that point. The Guardian Senshi die while trying to save the Starlights; Pluto and Saturn are killed by Uranus and Neptune when the latter two pretend to betray Sailor Moon so they can reach Galaxia themselves.Uranus and Neptune are subsequently killed by Galaxia when they try to take Galaxia's starseed to no avail.Nevertheless, Galaxia is able to overpower them in the end.It is revealed that Sailor Galaxia was once the most powerful force for good in the galaxy, and that she had made the sacrifice of sealing Chaos inside herself. To protect her own star seed from being corrupted, she sent it to Earth to become the Light of Hope and find the person who could defeat Chaos, should Galaxia lose control. Finally, Eternal Sailor Moon and Sailor Galaxia engage in their battle, with Moon wielding ChibiChibi as a Sword of Sealing.During the battle, Galaxia is fully consumed by Chaos and sprouts demonic wings.Knowing the good Galaxia has done, Sailor Moon refuses to fight her and is almost defeated, reverting back to her normal form.Completely vulnerable and symbolically naked, Usagi offers Galaxia forgiveness, and through this effort is able to heal her; she uses the Silver Crystal to purify Galaxia's body and drive out Chaos, returning the Golden Senshi to her true form.ChibiChibi and the Starlights also must leave, and Usagi and her friends return to their lives, knowing that Chaos has been dispersed back into a small force within the hearts of individuals, where it belongs. The show ends with Usagi kissing Mamoru under a full moon after reaffirming their love for each other.Star seed A "star seed" is a fictional concept from the story of Sailor Moon. All starseeds are born from the Galaxy Cauldron according to the manga. It is an essence of life and the Sailor Moon parallel of the human soul. Not all star seeds are given the power to be a Sailor Crystal.According to the manga, once a living being dies the star seed will return to the Galaxy Cauldron, where it can choose to either remain there or be reborn.According to the anime, a star seed carries a certain amount of shine which tells how much power they have.It will shine briefly before turning black. This allows the Sailor Animamates to turn the person into a "phage."In the Sailor Stars anime, it is revealed that at least one star seed had become a sentient being. When Sailor Galaxia sealed Chaos into her own body, she sent her star seed away in order to keep it from being corrupted, hoping it would give power to the fight against Chaos. This came to Earth as ChibiChibi, who during the series attaches herself to Sailor Moon.In the manga, however, ChibiChibi has a different background entirely.Production The manga version, created by Naoko Takeuchi, is called simply Stars.Starting in 2001, the manga series was released in English by Tokyopop, though as of May 2005 it is out of print.Because the series was already so popular, Toei Animation started adapting Stars into an anime before it was even finished.Toei has made an official statement that they will not license any further Sailor Moon series to America; this means that the final series is unlikely ever to be seen in an officially licensed English dub.Music Because several of the storylines' primary characters are musicians, the Stars series features important songs in not only the anime but the original manga as well.Sailor Star Song is used as the opening theme, making Stars the only Sailor Moon anime series to replace Moonlight Densetsu with another song.Kaze Mo, Sora Mo, Kitto ("The Sky, The Wind, Surely") is the closing song for the series, sung by Arisa Mizuki.Moonlight Densetsu makes its appearance as the closing song for the final episode.Nagareboshi He ("To the Shooting Stars") figures in both the manga and the anime. It is the song the Three Lights perform in search for Princess Kakyuu. My Friend's Love ("Unfulfilled Feelings") is also sung by the Three Lights.Sailor Moon, created by Naoko
