Don't miss this chance to download your favourite tracks for the LOWEST prices!Add a falsetto vocal, swooping strings, timpani and an oboe or two.It was this "Philly soul" that provided the bridge between Motown and what would soon be known as disco.Lites, the Moments, the Manhattans and the Dramatics.Thom Bell, often referred to as the black Burt Bacharach.La Means I Love You, Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time), I'm Sorry, Ready Or Not Here I Come (Can't Hide from Love), Break Your Promise and countless others.They just popped into my head and I started writing."And I guess women like to hear a man say they're sorry."But how did Hart, then only in his early 20s, manage to summon up such deep wells of sorrow?""Being a young man, I had to put myself in that position."It was amazing," he says."Bell was the schooled muso able to translate the more implausible ideas spinning around Hart's brain."My hobby was going to biblical movies, like when Charlton Heston played Moses," Hart explains."The music in those films had all these French horns and bugles, clarinets and big timpani drums.He has just recorded an album with the other giants of symphonic soul, William Hart and Russell Thompkins Jr of the Stylistics, called All the Way from Philadelphia: The Three Tenors of Soul."It's not a stage name," he says."My birth name is Ted Wizard Mills."Mills is modest about his achievements."Russell Thompkins, and what I did was combine those two great influences."And I learned from Norman how to create a space between the flutes, oboes and harps for the brass in an arrangement.The results sound as though I was classically trained."Trying to explain the unusually acquiescent sentiments expressed in Blue Magic's songs, Mills says: "Real men have finesse and charm.They're suave, not brutal or rough.When I ask if he now lives in a palatial mansion with guard dogs, he says: "You have to realise that we came out in an era when many millions of records were sold, but the artists never made money.That was the kind of company you kept in the music business during Blue Magic's heyday.Another time, three hoods jumped him in a car park and held a gun to his head, "Squeezed it right up tight against my eyeball."Suddenly, one of the thugs recognised him as the leader of the great Blue Magic."He shouted, 'Hey, it's the Wizard!This was because he regarded his bandmates as vocally weak, which, he says, "ate away at me for years and years"."None of the other guys really sang on those first three Stylistics albums.Thom just didn't like the way they sounded.Thompkins stuck it out for 25 years, even though he was miserable during most of it.Look at every shot of me on TV, every show we ever did: why wasn't I smiling?Apart from his lack of regard for his bandmates' abilities, he had, he says, "marital problems, internal revenue bills, problems with my parents and sister.It got so bad that I thought I would never sing again.But they haven't spoken a word to each other since a gig in 2000, when two members openly mocked Thompson onstage.""But they don't threaten me," he adds, rather shattering the illusion, offered by symphonic soul, of a brotherhood of men singing mystically pretty hymns to idealised females.All the Way from Philadelphia: the Three Tenors of Soul is available on Shanache.Every track that used to cost 35c is now ONLY 20c!We do our best at the moment to enable this option but this might take certain time.We hope you understand and we will notify all our members immediately Paypal is up and running again.Thank you for staying with us!We have made an agreement with the trusted payment processor located in USA.Find a Song

Write an online review and share your thoughts with other customers.Nov 02, 2007This dull CD is a dismal tribute to Serebrier's mentor, Leopold Stokowski, who put on many hats in his long lifetime.One was that of educator.He made symphonic "syntheses" of operas like Tristan and Boris Godunov that audiences were unlikely to encounter in the operas house.Oct 23, 2007I'll say this for Stokowski: he had no compunctions about gilding the lily.Wagner's orchestrations for his music dramas was (and still is) among the richest and lushest and most inventive of any in the repertoire.Granted Stokowski came out of the era in which conductors often tampered with the orchestrations of the composers who came before them.If one does, one is greet with undoubtedly effective, even thrilling, sound.Serebrier was, of course, Stokowski's assistant for a number of years and if I'm not mistaken this is his third recent CD of Stokowski arrangements; there were earlier CDs containing music of Bach, and of Russian music including Stokowski's 1939 orchestration of Mussorgsky's 'Pictures at an Exhibition.Act I, the Liebesnacht, and the Liebestod.Bournemouth Symphony, who to my ears keep sounding better and better.Stokowski recordings, or paying whatever price a 5CD set might command, or are interested only in the orchestral arrangements (as opposed to those plus sung excerpts from the operas on the Andante set), or who are put off by the idea of listening to ancient sound, refurbished though it be, this set then is the one to have.Oct 06, 2007As a conductor, Leopold Stokowski not only saw it as an obligation to uphold musical excellence, but also to educate the public in general about music.There is a similar arrangement of music from Act III of PARSIFAL, again containing some of the work's familiar themes.It does not have quite the impact of the TRISTAN arrangement, though it is respectful of the composer's genius.Most people who enjoy classical music and opera do not begin with Berg, Mahler, and the like.Contoured to perfectly fit a player's hand, the Nunchuk controller goes an extra step to meet the needs of gamers.Wii Remote controller,with an analog stick to assist in character movemen ...Juno, directed by Jason Reitman (Thank You For Smoking).Juno (Ellen Page, in a breakthrough role), a teenage girl faced with an unplanned pregnancy from ...SONY BMG Music Entertainment Store.Tales of EterniaTales of PhantasiaTales of Fandom: Vol.Maybe you clicked a bad or old link?Tales of Destiny 2
