Take a glimpse deep into the bush of Burkina Faso where the djembe drum is a sacred instrument. This DVD will not teach you how to play the djembe, but it will take you on a facinating journey into the heart of West Africa, from whence the world's most popular drum originated and is still played today. If you were to travel to any West African country you would find there in reality exactly what you see on this DVD.All drums and didjs

This is an (incomplete) overview of my West African Percussion CD collection.Read a detailed review here.Mamady's nickname when he was young.Read a great (very detailed) review on this CD
here. The recordings are made during the
festivities that mark the end of Ramadan. In the track list above, I also mention the corresponding rhythm that is played. This is one of my favourite CDs, with music from the Susu people.Apart from the great djembe tracks, there is also a krin track, and djole is played on the sikko
(frame drums). This great CD shows off his art, but
always in service to the beautiful traditional songs and rhythms. The djembe and duns are often accompanied by krin.US based group around M.Mandingo Drums
(1992) Tracks : B.The combination with a modern drum set is not really a
success.Francais', but it turns out the other tracks contain great percussion after all. This contains a lot of beautiful songs and a little less djembe drumming than usual. The result is a beautifully composed CD that I
enjoy very much.Djembe and dundun percussion from Burkina Faso.It is not bad, but it does not show much variety,
and sometimes the dunduns are too overpowering.Quality recordings of the music and chants played at different festivities in Mali. With the CD comes a substantial booklet with explanatory text (written by
ethnomusicologist and djembe drummer Rainer Polak) and some great photos.
