finding all this stuff on individual cds would be an arduous, expensive task.Focus on the music, the set...It's always great to own a set that has everything in it.The Complete Tal Farlow on Verve is no exception!For his amazing dexterity and feeling, Tal Farlow is simply one of the greatest jazz guitarist ever!From what I've read and heard, many cite Tal as an influence.Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell, many more great instrumentalist pointed the way for guitarist such as Tal and many others.When one listens to this set, one not only hears a great musician, one hears the influence of the era that inspired such great recordings.It's important to listen to this set from that perspective!Mosaic triumph to have made this music available to the world in such a fine fashion.Soul, thoughtfulness and ideas that come faster to Tal than can reasonably be understood, his playing approaches the superhuman, and not just for the avalanche of notes.And while his technique is stunning, it's his feeling that comes across more than anything.You don't play like this consistantly without having some serious soulfulness.As for the whiners and complainers on this page, all I can say is I could care less whether this has been out on CD in Japan or not.As for some of the other morons on this page, well they must be mentally ill or Republicans.Eventhough the material has been issued before, it's so nice to have these vintage Tal Farlow Verve albums all in one package.Tal had it all, and his artistry shined.That's what I take issue with.Japanese cd issues, but why lie?Scroll up and see for yourself.Why on earth slag Mosaic for releasing this set?If you want to buy the Japanese imports separately, go ahead.Breau and Pass, (not big on Smith) and now I have another great guitar players work and another fine Mosaic collection on my shelf.If you are interested in exciting bop guitar the Tal Farlow Mosaic is a good investment.CDs of Tal Farlow has been released?That I don't have to order Japanese imports to hear the music?That Tal Farlow's music is being presented in a high quality production, including extensive liner notes and details about the music and the sessions???Tal bowed to him, and Tal's sloppy artificial harmonic work is childlike and soulless compared to Lenny's.Is his estate getting anything out of this?You guys are worse than Norman Granz.What should Mosaic have done, not put the set out?I've been begging for this set for years, as have others.Tal just surfs through the changes like nobody's business on the medium and up tempo cuts.This is the definative Tal Farlow.How about giving the Moasic select treatment to the ABC Paramount recordings of Jimmy Raney ?This set was that enjoyable and consistent.Let's get one thing straight, first: Tal was one of the greats.Nearly all of this stuff has been out on great Japanese CD issues, with complete artwork and liner notes.The Japanese have and will probably always do it better.Maybe they are revisionists now.It's always great to own a set that has everything in it.The Complete Tal Farlow on Verve is no exception!For his amazing dexterity and feeling, Tal Farlow is simply one of the greatest jazz guitarist ever."Tal Farlow took up the guitar seriously after hearing Charlie Christian on the radio.He was so impressed with Christian's playing that he taught himself how to play all of Charlie Christian's solos by listening to Benny Goodman records.That was in North Carolina in the late1930's.In the 1940's Tal Farlow was in New York beginning to influence and capture the imaginations of jazz guitarists and jazz fans with his unique sound and style.Those recordings included Tal, This is Tal Farlow, The Tal Farlow Album and Autumn in New York.It was this series of recordings that established Tal Farlow as one of the greatest jazz guitarists of all time.Concord Jazz brought Farlow out of "retirement" in the late 1970's to make a series of recordings that are as astounding in their own way as those made in the 1950's.Separated by 30 years, recordings like Autumn in New York from the album by the same name and I've Got The World On A String from Cookin' On All Burners demonstrated the unique Tal Farlow style; unorthodox technique, and a sound represented by clearly articulated lines played throughout the range of the guitar, chromatic chords and unusual chord voicings, flowing, complex solos that never seem to run out of ideas, improbable speed, that special Tal Farlow tone and unerring swing.In the 1990's Tal Farlow was heard at the 1997 JVC Tribute to Barney Kessel With Love from Your Friends, and at the 1996 Tribute to Tal Farlow.
