Underground Collective biography, Underground Collective discography
Kevin's love for music started at a
very young age. This is one thing
that made WBLS so special in that time period.By now, Kevin was hooked and he started having thoughts of starting
his own record collection. It was then the name Master Kev
was born.By the early 1990's, Kevin was mastering the art
of beat matching with new records, classics and all. That first experience changed
his life forever.Tony Humphries was the master of introducing and
breaking the best new songs or tracks. He had a knack for being able
to know what was going to be a big record before it actually did.Tony had such an ear for music and played all different styles besides
house. He would play rock, soul, pop...Tony is one of the most diverse DJ's
to ever play, period.Club Zanzibar's amazing years were now drawing to a close and The Shelter
was the new hot spot for soulful underground house.Timmy Regisford would work
new music and classics so seamlessly and make people literally scream and shout
like they were in church. When Shelter temporarily closed in 1994, underground
house music in NYC was suffering. In April 1998, Kevin bought his first computer. While internet surfing one
day, Kevin put the name Tony Humphries on his AOL search and some "message board" websites
came up, most notable the MAW chatboard. It was then he started reading more
and more and becoming interested in underground house once again and started
feeling the urge to hit parties again and start to DJ again.Kevin decided at that time he would finally brush the dust off his turntables
and enter this competition never once thinking he would win, just doing it for
the love of the music and for fun. There were some
very good DJ's and excellent mixes from all who entered.Soon afterwards John
Davis from Body And Soul fame had offered me a slot with Adam Scott at his Legends
party.Shortly after
that a man who Kevin eventually became very close friends with, Doug Smith from
95 North fame offered him a guest spot at his residency Club Red in Washington
DC."Master Kev", Doug and Phil D had so much fun that night.Raven
Fox had asked Tony several times about considering Kev to be a part of the group."When I got that initial
call from Tony asking ME to be down with him, an idol of mine from when I was
a kid, I nearly collapsed.HELL YEAH was my immediate
answer."Kevin called Raven Fox immediately to thank him for pushing for him.In early 2000, with only about 4 months into being a part of Yellorange, "Master
Kev's" HUGE break came at the Miami 2000 WInter Music Conference.Tony decided he wanted to take
a break and had asked "Master Kev" to play for a while to a packed room. The
experience was overwhelming and at that point he knew he fit in with the camp. And then in October 2000, Master Kev was asked by his good
friend Phil D to be part of a new organization called "Underground Collective".DJ's such as Tony Humphries, Frankie Feliciano, Phil D, Marlon
D and Master Kev.He can specifically recall 4 of them. One
night at Filter 14 where they were tag teaming and playing 3 records at once
at one point and just having fun.One record skipped, Kev felta little embarrased
but Dave didn't care and laughed it off and then both laughed it off together
to an applauding crowd.Your Cart is currently empty."Please enter a valid email address."Web statistics tool for Joomla!"Web statistics tool for Joomla! The Underground Collective is a group of artists, writers, and thinkers who united in 2004 to provide an outlet for information and ideas.Custom Printed Organic Cotton Apparel Now Available. But the one that seems to be getting the most attention of late is Mobile Clubbing.Unaware citizens meet the mp3 playing, iPod culture. For non participants this is of course a silent rave and a more than surreal sight! The next Mobile Clubbing event happens on Monday 22nd November, Paddington Station, London. The summer of 2004 was especially a highlight.Remember all those kids who danced to their iPods in London's Waterloo station?Silent FestivalIn response to the problem of noise pollution at the Glastonbury festival this year (which
