(What's this?Born out of the intention to create music that ran away from formulas, Vurla is guided by the spontaneity of its members."Visit other CNET Networks sites: Select SiteBNETCHOWCNET.Today is my grandmother's birthday.It is hard to imagine a world without my grandmother's bold presence yet here it is a year and a half and life goes on.As you can see from this picture of Vurla with one of her nephews, she was short in stature but she was still a woman to be looked up to.She kept and cherished every gift my sister and I ever gave her.Even the tacky little things we got her as children!Thank you for showing us how to fiercely love the people in our lives and to appreciate the little things.My grandmother had a lot of quirky habits but one that always stood out was her way of writing notes to people.How can writing notes be quirky?It was an amazing gift to hold a Mother's Day card I had just sent her and read her response.The shaky scrawl is still as familiar to me as her voice is in my head.That is a love that doesn't go away.The same has not been true about my grandmother.She has been in several recent dreams of mine.Earlier this year my mother and my aunt had my grandmother's car insurance cancelled to make sure that she no longer drove.On a good day Vurla behind the wheel was a scary thing!Earlier this month when I was in Mississippi that was verified by witnesses.Last night I dreamed that my grandmother was driving me to the Social Security office to give them a piece of her mind.Last month my father, sister and I sent a big basket of daisies to my grandmother on my mother's birthday.We wanted to make sure she knew we were still praying for her every day.When I called my grandmother to see how she liked them she told me over and over how much she liked them.She described the basket and each flower in detail.Then she exclaimed that the card was all wrong.She told me that Petey and Gus didn't have their names on it and she KNEW that they loved her too.Our dogs get a lot more credit than they deserve.My grandmother was not able to travel from Mississippi to Texas to attend my mother's funeral with the rest of us.She went on and on about the good food and the number of people and asked us if we had been fed.Stephanie assured her that we had enjoyed a meal in the fellowship hall immediately following the service.My sister was at a loss.My sister and I have been laughing about it ever since.Leave it to Vurla to provide a moment of levity on a day as sad as that.Tell Mommy and Melvin that we love them.And be sure to have some chicken ready for us when we get there!That is another Conversation with Vurla too!Mama, when did she start calling you Mama?Now the fact that my sister would call a family member during the day is cause for this reaction but I digress.Conversations with Vurla are never what I expect but they always bring a smile to my face.When they called Mama's regular physician he told her she couldn't take any pain relievers because of her age.Mama was almost in tears when I spoke to her on Friday.My back is still so sore.She dug her heels in and refused.So we spent the evening without any contact as electricity and phone service in MS were spotty at best.The yard was in such a chaotic mess that it took her more than five minutes to describe it to me.They're out of the will!Still, I thank God for His divine protection of my grandmother.It is not an uncommon event to hear my grandmother say that she has made some special food for her loved ones.Over the next few weeks honey mustard made a regular appearance at the table.Everybody loved him and I was no exception.This town loved him so much that he became the mayor.And from what I hear he is doing a really good job.Today I spoke with my grandmother to update her on my dog's health and she tells me that the mayor said hello and thanks for all my campaign help.Passion: God of This CityWords cannot adequately describe how this compilation of songs opens the listener's heart for the cities of the world.Philippa Gregory: The Other Boleyn GirlI have only just started this but so far this is an engaging read.Bob BlissA genuine man of God who will always hold a special place in my family.Escaping The Gray TwilightThis is my sister's blog.Ever Changing CrusadesI love looking at life from Cindy's point of view.Pat BlissBob's sweet wife and a thoughtful new teacher.This Guy Falls DownMark got me started on this blog journey.This album has pictures of my new home in Stamford, CT and will eventually have pictures of the experiences I want to share.Here are some of my favorite pictures of Petey, my porky yorkie.This little guy has been a blessing from the Lord.This cover picture is my favorite expression of his.
