Wackies biography, Wackies discography
Wackies is an American independent record label specialized in reggae. It is considered by some to be the first significant reggae studio and label in the United States.Basic Channel record label family, rightfully called Wackies. This is part of the story of the dub sounds which emanated outta
New York."Bullwackies" or "Wackies" At present there
is a sizeable amount of repressed and reissued C."Dance Hall style" album which for an introduction
to Wackies cannot be bettered.Hardwax, Jumbo Caribbean Disco, Rawsw,
Aries and Senrab to touch on but a few.Around 1983 Lloyd and his colleagues began releasing the material under
the now standardised name and logo of 'Wackies'.Righteous Man' he may well have
cut his first with them.Lloyd as I stated before was actually a singer
he did harmonies with Duke Reid, he also knew King Tubby.Wackies also had a sound system...Bronx and went to the end of the City Line then everything every shop was
called 'City' something.Wackies sound finally took on it's unique shape and
deepness.MOOG synthesizer can be
heard often. In the early 80ies WACKIEs reached it's prime time. For a summary of available records check www.Sound presentation of longtime unavailable Bullwackies' material, drawn this time from the golden year of 1982.With the undeniable influence of Black Ark Lee Perry still looming large over his sound, Lloyd Barnes began to carve a niche, with much o...Sound presentation of longtime unavailable Bullwackies' material, drawn this time from the golden year of 1982.Offering fully worked over dubwise excursions and versions of tracks voiced by such luminaries as MAX ROMEO, BARRINGTON SPENCE, HORACE ANDY and JUNIOR DELAHAYE.Web Design and Engineering by Default, business intelligence by SpringBolt.Another essential dub set from the Bronx. Its sound is characterized by pervasive echo and deep bass: the atmosphere is luminous and unique.Yet this great music has struggled to move beyond cult status: many of the recordings are still obscure, and most are very hard to find.Sound reissue programme will provide further pointers."The core musicians here are Allah, Clive Hunt and Jerry Harris, with outstanding contributions from hornsman Sel Wheeler and Roy Robertson on bass, and John Clarke on the single vocal track.Included are dubs of rhythms voiced for Wackies by the Chosen Brothers, Joe Auxumite and K.White, alongside versions of Mammy Blue, Bo Kirkland's soul classic 'I Want To Get Next To You', and a superb reprise of Sel Wheeler's 12" cover of Jo Jo Bennett's 'Leaving Rome'."Worth buying for the version of 'Real Rock' ('the rhythm most known with the song 'Armagideon Time' by Willie Williams or covered by The Clash) alone and a must have for the fans of Sugar Minott, the Wackies label in general and for all lovers of dub reggae."More resplendent dub from Bullwackies!""As there haven't been any information with the original album release from 1982, the short and basic info is as follows: 'The Reckless Breed in Jamaica, the New Breed in New York!Wackies' luminaries as Max Romeo, Barrington Spence and Junior Delahaye.Likewise Leroy Sibbles, on bass guitar, bringing to the session three classic Heptones Studio One rhythms: 'Fight It To The Top', 'Love Won't Come Easy' and 'Sea Of Love'.Vintage Wackies dub: all killers, no fillers!"GUEST
REVIEW*
I am slightly embarrassed to admit it, but when I first saw this LP in my local
shop I was sure it was called Matthews Dub.The album is
produced by Bullwackies, aka Lloyd Barnes, and is released by Wackies.New York that recorded Horace
Andy, Wayne Jarrett and the Love Joys, amongst others. The players on the album
include Jah Batta, Clive Hunt, Bullwackies All Stars, and New Breed. It is
relatively noncommercial dub, and the vocals are few and far between.Parts of this album get a cool groove going for a bit, then the
excitement goes.Think It Over Dub

The Basic Channel gents continue to reissue every last second of Wackies output. It was engineered and produced by Bullwackies and is the sort of album that only Wackies completists should pursue. The production is weak
Sly and Robbie with a smattering of Upsetter effects.Super Dub will be easily forgotten by purists and dub fans alike.Best stick to the Wackies' vocal albums in the future.
