Jake E."Donate towards our web hosting bill!"Wrnlrd hails from Virginia, as does their label Small Sacrifice whom also appears to be new to the USBM scene.The unique cardboard wrap around the album signifies that the band has had an array of faces over the past 3 years, playing everything from epic black noise to ambient black acoustics.Cperadt finds Wrnlrd returning to black metal's roots, not necessarily finds a raw nature, but rather a harsher sound.Especially as the explanations would be rather uneducated as this is my first experience with the band.The album opens up with the track 1590, a fairly atmospheric dark ambient piece.For those of you who know any New England lore, 1590 is the year that John White returned to Roanoke Island to a colony that had seemingly vanished into thin air.He left the colony in 1587 in order to go back to england to gather supplies and once ready to leave, England was knuckle deep in the naval battle with the Spanish Armada.Once permitted to leave, French ships attacked White and his crew and they were, once again, forced back to England, and was not able to get back to Roanoke Island until 1590.Rough weather prevented them from going to Croatoan and forced them to return to England.The fate of the lost colonists remains one of the great mysteries of New England lore and American history.So I would assume that this opening track sets this mood and theme for the rest of the album to come.The music is incredibly evil in nature, but not necessarily of a satanic or depressive nature, but more of an occult understanding in general.This is highly intellectual and educated black metal, and is not for those strictly wishing to bash their cranium off the side of the wall.While the drums are programmed, they sound surprisingly real, and I was nearly convinced that Wrnlrd really was that good of a drummer until I read on the myspace that he uses programming.The guitar itself is rather noisy and grainy, creating a unique fuzzing overtop of the already distorted atmosphere.Though the album is not overly inventive or talented, it is made up for by pure atmosphere.It should also be noted that the last track on this album, track 13, is not listed, perhaps paying homage to the superstitions of this time period.The track begins and ends in silence, with most of the music being rather noisy.This was actually a rather enjoyable release on the American underground and I am glad to see Wrnlrd among our ranks.This one is worth supporting.Hardcore music fans are migrating to eMusic, the iTunes Music Store's cheaper, cooler cousin.Music features legendary and emerging artists in every genre: classic rock to classical,indie to international, soundtracks to spiritual, jazz to country and many more.With eMusic, you OWN your music without any restrictions.You can cancel at any time and keep the music you have downloaded.Legal or copyright question regarding YouTube, Flickr or Wikipedia content on eMusic?Googled the number and looked it up).Perhaps there are only three more Wrnlrd releases slated before everything comes to an end?And their page says: FREE shipping worldwide.Email me when comments are added to this post.You can turn these notifications off later if you want.Contact
