X Project biography, X Project discography
Thanks to its creators, its code has been made public, under the GNU GPL license. It has been ported to OS X by the SISSA Language, Cognition and Development Lab, thanks to a collective effort to which several labs kindly contributed. There is also a user list, to which you can subscribe, or where you can consult an archive for problems or issues.Giulia awarded our Lab a grant to develop the program. The grant could be enough to pay about 1.We keep developing the program as much as we can, with full committment of our programmers.Expressions of supports for our project are also warmly welcome. Please send me a message if you want to say something (possibly nice) about our project. Our programmers are the excellent Luca Filippin, who did a lot of work on many part of the code (movies, sound, USB Button box, EGI extension, Eye Tracker extension, text, general improvements), and the excellent group at DataMind, which did many things on the old code and is developing a great deal of the new project.PsyScope X Build 51 available
PsyScope X, build 51 is available now (September 07).Build 51 replaces the drawing engine from the old QuickDraw to CoreVideo. The advantage should be a much greater reliability for visual stimuli sent in fast succession. We tested PsyScope X with a MacBook Pro with an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.GHz CPU and 2 GB of Memory, and an external CRT screen displaying the stimuli. With other configurations we could not obtain this precision.Besides this major change, in Build 51 many bugs have been fixed, and several other commands for movies and the mouse have been added.Support for the ioLab USB Button Box
Since Build 46 on, we entirely rewrote the code for the USB Button Box, as the code delivered by our previous programming company (Robosoft) ended up to be too poor to be usable. The Bbox Info page contains information on this part of the project. Please make sure that you have at least Build 46 if you want to use the USB Button Box.PsyScope X and PsyScope 9
With PsyScope X you should be able to do everything you did with PsyScope Os 9, but remember that the program still has bugs. They are available here in html version and here in Pdf format for easier offline inspection. In PsyScope Beta II some major bugs of the OS 9 version (affecting Movies, Dual Monitors, List Selection, and Variable Values recording) have been eliminated.PsyScope X has several features that are not present in PsyScope 9.This will allow one to pilot external devices Doc Here.Remember that there is an active users list where people might answer your queries. This version has been compiled with Xcode 2.It can work on Panther, but we have no Panther machines any longer and so we can't say.If you ever need the Alpha I version, compiled with CodeWarrior, you can download it here.Beta I is not expected to have sharply different timing properties for pictures, but sound and movies will definitely improve.September 07) Too many things happened from the last entries.I'm pretty happy about this part, although, yes, it took a lot of time and effort to get it done!Everything seems to work fine, but it does not seem believable.October 06) Sebastian Raducci, at DataMind, tried several things to solve the hideous bug 112.But we will do it in the next few months.August 06) Sebastian Raducci, at DataMind, started the Universalization of the code.We will work with Sissa programmers, programmers at DataMind, and independent programmers, in order to create a new version of the program.Things should go much faster from now on!So, hopefully, we will develop a good new program in the next few years, with programmers coming from our Region (Had I only known before....January 06) After waiting and waiting to get a decent product, we just gave up with our outsource company, and decided to take up development of the USB BBox module here at Sissa.August 05) Luca Filippin completed the move of the code to Xcode 2.Now PsyScope compiles separately for Tiger and Panther. You can place orders for it at the ioLab
Systems A prototype of the Bbox is touring some labs in the US and Europe. We hope to get feedback from the labs, and then fix the open issues that will be discovered before PsyScope gets out of Beta version.July 05) We added some other movie command to be able to interrogate the time of a movie at any time.In doing that, we discovered and fixed several bugs of the original code.June 05) The new TOBII extension is ready.March 05) Luca Filippin implemented a Serial Out command.November 04) At Sissa, Luca Filippin completed the new movie extension, and rewrote the Sound code to improve performance.Get in touch with me if you work with EGI machines. In the meantime, an external company is developing the communication protocol for the new USB Bbox.September 04) The USB Bbox Prototype is ready, and ready to be programmed (Thanks to the Very Precious Linc Smith).April 04) A Bug Tracking system is now in place. There, you can check the status of current bugs, and add new tasks if necessary.PRAAT reads the Sound Designer II file format. This will make it easier to use GNU tools to prepare experimental stimuli in PsyScope.November 03) Now PsyScope X supports movies. The hideous bugs that plagued the OS 9 versions should be things of the past (pats on extenral company's shoulders).November 03) Now you can address the left and right channels of a sound independently, without need of labeling the corresponding files. With this feature, you can build paragraphs incrementally by using text events.September 03) PsyScope X will not support the sound type SoundEdit any longer. The newer sound formats we plan to support will amply make up for this loss. You can also download the project CW8 sources here (16MB).Thank you for your visit.Manning Marable on his new book,
