more...It has been developed at Carnegie Mellon by Jonathan Cohen, Matthew Flatt, Brian MacWhinney and Jefferson Provost for Mac OS 9 in the '90s.It has been ported to OS X by the SISSA Language, Cognition and Development Lab, thanks to a collective effort to which several labs kindly contributed.The current version of PsyScope X is an universal program.Documentation is available on this page, if you have the patience to look for it (sorry, I am not strong in html, nor in organizing things).There is also a user list, to which you can subscribe, or where you can consult an archive for problems or issues.Giulia awarded our Lab a grant to develop the program.The grant could be enough to pay about 1.Venezia Giulia scrapped its funding program entirely and decided to start the procedure to fund research projects all over again.While we have reasonable chances to be financed again, the period from July 2007 to January 2008 won't be covered by any funds, and before January we won't know for sure whether further funding is available.Expressions of supports for our project are also warmly welcome.Please send me a message if you want to say something (possibly nice) about our project.Our programmers are the excellent Luca Filippin, who did a lot of work on many part of the code (movies, sound, USB Button box, EGI extension, Eye Tracker extension, text, general improvements), and the excellent group at DataMind, which did many things on the old code and is developing a great deal of the new project.PsyScope X Build 51 available
PsyScope X, build 51 is available now (September 07).You can also download the code, in the form of a Xcode 2.In order to do that, you need to install Subversion (which you can download here
) and follow these directions.Build 51 replaces the drawing engine from the old QuickDraw to CoreVideo.So if visual stimulus duration is crucial for you, you are advised to try with the latest processor you can put your hands on.Besides this major change, in Build 51 many bugs have been fixed, and several other commands for movies and the mouse have been added.The Bbox Info page contains information on this part of the project.Sound and movie accuracy markedly improved with respect to the Alphas and OS 9 versions.We run performance tests on the Beta II Version, by using the Black Box Toolkit, only concentrating on sound performance.They are available here in html version and here in Pdf format for easier offline inspection.Then, ask questions if you don't find an answer.Remember that there is an active users list where people might answer your queries.This version has been compiled with Xcode 2.It can work on Panther, but we have no Panther machines any longer and so we can't say.If you ever need the Alpha I version, compiled with CodeWarrior, you can download it here.Alpha II Performance Tests are available here in html version and here in Pdf format.Beta I is not expected to have sharply different timing properties for pictures, but sound and movies will definitely improve.October 06) Luca Filippin completed the Usb Bbox module, and we finished the first draft of the software manual.October 06) Sebastian Raducci, at DataMind, completed the Universalization of the code.Somebody will surely find some problem....October 06) Sebastian Raducci, at DataMind, tried several things to solve the hideous bug 112.As it turns out, this requires to rewrite a good part of the code (because PsyScope still relies on QuickDraw, which is an outdated technology).But we will do it in the next few months.April 06) Luca Filippin completed the alpha version of the USB Bbox Module.Venezia Giulia, which fosters and advertises regional Science initiatives.So, hopefully, we will develop a good new program in the next few years, with programmers coming from our Region (Had I only known before....Lots of physicists, lots of computer scientists, and almost lots of neuroscientists!Now PsyScope compiles separately for Tiger and Panther.They sat there undetected for many years, and then probably something changed in the memory algorithms in Tiger, and boom, they popped out to increase our pains.August 05) The new USB Button Box is ready.You can place orders for it at the ioLab
