What is Yasmin?Feedback for Yasmin3 CommentsRate it!Yasmin prevents ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary) and also cause changes in your cervical and uterine lining, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus.Yasmin is used as contraception to prevent pregnancy.It is also used to treat moderate acne in women who are at least 14 years old and have started having menstrual periods, and who wish to use birth control pills to prevent pregnancy.This medication is also used to treat the symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), such as anxiety, depression, irritability, trouble concentrating, lack of energy, sleep or appetite changes, breast tenderness, joint or muscle pain, headache, and weight gain.Yasmin may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.Important information about Yasmin
This medication can cause birth defects in an unborn baby.Do not use Yasmin if you have any of the following conditions: a history of stroke or blood clot, circulation problems (especially if caused by diabetes), a heart valve disorder, breast or uterine cancer, abnormal vaginal bleeding, kidney or liver disease, an adrenal gland disorder, severe high blood pressure, migraine headaches, or a history of jaundice caused by birth control pills.Before using Yasmin, tell your doctor if you have any of the following conditions.Yasmin can cause birth defects.Do not use Yasmin if you are pregnant.The hormones in this medication can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby.Yasmin may also slow breast milk production.Before using Yasmin, tell your doctor if you have any of these conditions.How should I take Yasmin?Take Yasmin exactly as it was prescribed for you.Do not take larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor.You will take your first pill on the first day of your period or on the first Sunday after your period begins (follow your doctor's instructions).When the pills run out, start a new pack the following day.Tell your doctor if this bleeding continues or is very heavy.If you need to have any type of medical tests or surgery, or if you will be on bed rest, you may need to stop using Yasmin for a short time.Any doctor or surgeon who treats you should know that you are using Yasmin.Your doctor will need to see you on a regular basis while you are using Yasmin.Do not miss any appointments.Store Yasmin at room temperature away from moisture and heat.If you miss one"active" pill, take the dose as soon as you remember or take two pills at the time of your next regularly scheduled dose.You do not need to use backup birth control.If you miss two"active" tablets in a row in week one or two, take two tablets each for the next two regularly scheduled doses (one missed tablet plus one regularly scheduled tablet for 2 days in a row).If you miss two "active" tablets in a row in week three, or if you miss three tablets in a row during any of the first 3 weeks, throw out the rest of the pack and start a new package on the same day if you are a Day 1 starter.If you are a Sunday starter, keep taking a pill every day until Sunday.On Sunday, throw out the rest of the pack and start a new pack of pills that same day.However, if you miss your period 2 months in a row, call your doctor because you might be pregnant.If you miss one of the reminder pills in week four, skip that dose and take the next one as directed.Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much Yasmin.What should I avoid while taking Yasmin?Do not smoke while using Yasmin, especially if you are older than 35.Yasmin side effects

have experienced with most contraceptive pills I have tried) Yasmin gave me uncontrollable, incurable THRUSH.It first started about three months after starting Yasmin and I had it for 8 months straight until I went off Yasmin.Each time I would be in tears.It was horrendous and I am disappointed that neither my GP or Gyno could identify Yasmin as the problem.Gyno if Yasmin could be causing the depression I was experiencing and he said not likely that it was probably some other underlying issue which baffled me as I have a wonderful life in all aspects.I, and the people around me want to live a happy and harmonious life.Yasmin for about a month now and i will never go back!Anybody concerned about their pill symptoms, look up CANDIDA.It is related to so many symptoms and my latest thoughts are, The pill causes candida and candida causes the symptoms.I'm 29, have been on birth control pills for 10 years, and switched to Yasmin about 2 years ago.In the 2 years since starting Yasmin, my ankles and lower legs swelled heavily...Yasmin were obviously absent during that time.So, after making sure that my heart and kidneys were healthy, my gynecologist prescribed continuous hormone Yasmin and claimed it as the "ultimate solution".In the last few weeks alone, the vein in my right leg has become massive, my legs are so distended by the end of the days on which they swellI that I can't fit into pants which are otherwise loose, I am noticing other large veins "surfacing", little veins are breaking everywhere, and I can now see most of the blood vessels beneath the skin in both legs.Yasmin is the reason behind my state of feeling unwell.Monday because i have been really concerned about the pins and needles feeling that i have been constantly getting, fatigued muscles (even when i haven't exercised) and the intense hot flushes.Prior to Yasmin I was on Loette and about 2 years ago I was on Diane for a short period of time, having to get off it as it made me so emotional.My doctor told me to skip the sugar pills for 2 months to see if the hot flushes subside...I'm just thinking i want to get off Yasmin all together because the pins and needles are quite a horrible sensation to have.HAVE BEEN ON YASMIN FOR ABOUT 8 MONTHS NOW, EVER SINCE I STARTED DATING MY BOYFRIEND.SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE NOTICED THAT MY MIGRAINES INCREASED TO AT LEAST ONE IF NOT MORE A know, not good).It turns out, I'm allergic to Yasmine.The doctor also told me, if you do develop hives on this medication, you need emergency help.Heart palpitations, dizziness, migraines, fatigue, no sex drive, weight gain, panic attacks.Saw cardiologist was diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse however i don't think the doctor ever saw this on my echocardiogram.All of these symptoms appeared after being on yaz for over a year.Yaz at the end of this pill pack..May 2006 I stopped taking Yasmin after being on it for a few years.ENT doctor and the tissue in my sinsus cavities was so inflamed he recommended surgery.But I was still able to run and exercise more than I had in many years.Yasmin since it had worked before.Two days after starting Yasmin my sinus problems and headaches returned.The only good thing is that I lost my appetite and in one month I lost 7 of the 10 lbs I gained on Ortho.Yasmin this past weekend in the middle of a pack.Had I not been on it before I would have thought this was just a bad allergy season.Yasmin was the cause of all my sinus problems and headaches.Both my 19 year old daughter and my 30 year old step daughter were put on Yasmin.Both began having heart problems.They put her on magnesium to help control the racing heart.It helped, but then she became pregnant and had to lower the dose.The 19 year old has had the worst side effects.We pulled her off the Yasmin, but she has continued to have uncontrollably high blood pressure.Im 18 years old and I started taking Yasmin about 3 and a half months ago ..Anyways, I got on the pill because my boyfriend and I really wanted to take our relationship farther.He still was, I was horrible.Yasmin has caused me to be in such horrid conditions.He even asked me where Chasity went (thats my name).Also I noticed here recently right before I was coming off Yasmin that I was getting some horrible migraines, and I have never had problems with headaches or migraines in all my life.I'm simply just not a complainer.Yasmin but I cant really recall any of those.Being on Yasmin I just took everything to the extreme and thought everything was falling apart, i even lost hope on all ambitions.Needless to and I do prescribe Yasmin to my patients and I rarely here of these side effects.Perhaps this can be contributed to the fact that it (Yasmin) is available here under a different brand name however suppresses your androgens (testosterone) which causes many of these symptoms.I'm a lot better now that I stopped Yasmin, but I know it's going to take up to six months to get back to normal.Have your doctor check your hormone level.Even if it's " low normal" that isn't healthy for say, a 20, or 30 year old.It's supposed to help production of your androgens.We women can be a very helpful resource
