Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources.YMG's classic work a uniquely fragile yet powerful quality.Stuart Moxham's girlfriend Wendy Smith lent Stuart the money to buy the Rickenbacker.Wendy also accompanied the band on their tour of the US, and shot a set of seminal photographs of the band.Very early in their existence, there was a fourth member of the band, Peter Joyce, Phil and Stuart Moxham's cousin.Joyce was a Telephone Engineer and an electronics whizz, who had made his own synthesiser from a kit.Their first vinyl release was on the compilation LP Is The War Over?While signed to UK independent record label, Rough Trade Records the YMGs released two EPs, Final Day and Testcard, and one acclaimed and very influential album, Colossal Youth (a reference to the Early Greek 'Kouroi' marble statues, from which the YMGs took the inspiration for their name.Musical influences included Eno, Kraftwerk, Neil Young, Lou Reed, The Velvet Underground, Roxy Music, David Bowie, Can and others.The band were acquainted with Scritti Politti, the band of Cardiff native Green Gartside, and ended up signed to the same label, Rough Trade Records.Courtney Love's band Hole covered the Young Marble Giants track "Credit In The Straight World".Stuart Moxham was a fan of Manchester guitarist Vini Reilly's early work, and was also very interested in Dub Reggae.Feel Good All Over label, before fans persuaded him to enter the studio again.Another album, 'Cars in the Grass', followed.Stuart had also been recording in the USA (the album 'Fine Tuning' and six tracks on the album "Barbara Manning Sings With The Original Artists"(1993)), where he has acquired a small but devoted fanbase.The Huddle House', recorded as a duet with Louis Philippe, with whom he's regularly performed over the last five years, was released on Wonder Records in May 2007.They released two records together, The Prince of Wales and Cardiffians.They performed one new song, "Alright," on this special.The band is currently preparing to make further new recordings, but no date has yet been announced for the release of this new material.Fi, private reference recordings of the 'Salad Days' album and the otherwise unobtainable Peel Sessions.DIY art rock in the glorious surroundings of the land of their fathers."Mix Festival in Boulogne Billancourt, just outside Paris, on 28 October 2007.All text is available under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License.Articles

How to...Sparse soundtracks from a bleak 1980s Cardiff landscape.Although they were only together for a couple of years, they made a mark on the Welsh music scene, and influenced a number of musicians.They formed when Stuart Moxham returned to South Wales from living in Germany.The name Young Marble Giants was taken from a book describing kouros, ancient Greek statues representing youth.The demo was eventually released in 2000 as the Salad Days collection, on the Vinyl Japan label.Young Marble Giants contributed two tracks to Is The War Over?Final Day single and the instrumental Testcard EP.Resolutely uncommercial ("Young Marble Giants is a reaction to everything successful today," Stuart Moxham told Sounds in 1980), the band were never destined for great fortune and fame, but they built up a strong following nonetheless.Although live performances were infrequent, Young Marble Giants toured in America and Europe.They split up following their American tour in 1980, due to musical differences and tensions in the band.In January 2004, the three members of the band plus drummer Andrew Moxham participated in a BBC Radio Wales documentary about the group.They recorded some music at the radio studio.It was their first performance as Young Marble Giants since 1980.On 27 May 2007 the band reunited for their first live show in 27 years, at the Hay Festival.Colossal Youth, on Domino Records, which also featured single and EP tracks and rarities.LP when it came out and still listen to the tape I made of it.Darel from South Carolina
